Not for me right now. He needs to grow in stature to be a Dennis Irwin type. Sure he snarls a bit, but you need more than that to be captain. Soon enough though, I think. To me the only one with the gravitas for captain is the GK...but I always think it's a waste of time giving it to someone who cant, by position, really get involved in the outfield action or events of a disciplinary nature further up the pitch.

Never been a fan of a gk captain mate myself, obv things change but for me Coleman is the only one that ticks most boxes, others are too young atm who may one day grow into the role, one thing for sure is that the last few have had almost zero of the qualities youd look for in one - a moyes trend to choose a quiet captain really

I dont consider onfield motivation to be the lot of the captain, tbh. If these professionals dont get it going onto the pitch, cant follow instruction and aren't motivated, then there's nothing much a captain can do in game. In diplomatic terms though they are important, and the most influential captains are those the refs consider their superiors. You have a look at the slack they'll cut teams when Terry, Gerrard or Kompany are at the scene of any incident. We'll never get that until we can be successful. Neville (because of his success at United) got a bit of that when he was our captain, but Everton's status as a team usually trumped his influence with refs.
 

Jagielka's armband is IMO one of Moyes biggest mistakes. Jags is/was a class defender but he's not a leader, his lack of reaction in yesterdays game (Costa situation) is a proof. Neville was miles "better" than him, at least you could notice he was motivating lads on the pitch, argues with officials. Jags do nothing.

I know that it won't be a good for his and team morale to changing captaincy during a season but I think it need to be addressed soon.
 
Gibson to replace Barry and make him CAPTAIN. When he played we didn,t lose many. Also replace jags with stones. Gibson and Mccarthy play together for eire and being he,s irish he won,t have a problem speaking his mind
 
...talk about putting the boot in when somebody has had a few bad games. McCarthy is definitely captain material, so apparently is Stones. Both will have their time, but that isn't now.
 
If Gibbo could stay injury free and playing regular he is a born leader and not afraid to tell players to pull their finger out. Gibbo for me

I voted "yes" only because I want Jagielka out. I actually think McCarthy has yet to hit his best form this season, was not very good yesterday .. though I do like the 'hard knock' putting 'imself around edge to his game .. very Roy Keane

A year or so left as a starter is what I was stating, don't forget we gave Hibbert a 2 year deal and he doesn't even make the squad
