Mcfadden - still without a club

I watched my first game at Goodison as a nipper in Dec 67. That team included Ball, Kendall, Young etc. Since then I've witnessed some of the worst and best times at EFC, and a host of great players, and I can honestly say that McFadden is among the top 10 in terms of ability I've seen playing in our team. I really can't understand the flak he receives on blue websites and from so-called fans at Goodison: he was played out of position by our clueless manager who realised his potential, but, just as with Arteta, Osman, Vic, Seamus etc. thought that sticking him out on the wing would bring out the best in him, when in reality, it just stifled his natural game.
He was forced to defend more than create and fans just slated his work rate (or lack of). If ever there was a natural No. 10, it was him. Some players should be allowed to express themselves without shackles (Barkley?) and I feel if J. Mc was playing in front of our new J. Mc and Barry, he'd be a huge success, knowinging that the water carrying was sorted.
For those who doubt his contribution to our improvement c. 05, just check out the official DVD's and witness his assists, clever link up play with Cahill, Osman and Arteta, his incredible double headed goal line clearance and of course, brave and spectacular goals with head and both feet. The lad had it all, but bad coaching and injuries dealt him a bad hand.
I wish him luck for the future as at 31 yrs, he still could have some good times left in the game.

How many games have you watched since 67?? lol surely he's nowhere near top 10 efc player in 50+yrs in terms of ability - In terms of skill, he was a good player. His decision making, on the other hand, was really poor. Google any club he has been at and you will see he was poor at every club he's ever been at with flashes of decent goals.

My lad will always remember his first GP visit due to Jimmy Macs superb last-minute goal vs Charlton.
Won't be popular this but for me at the time I thought he [Poor language removed] out of the tackle and the ball bounced up nicely for him and watching it since my opinion has never changed....pure luck from a very very overrated average player I'm afraid

Oh ffs.

He was a very average player but nothing about that Charlton goal was luck. It was pure skill followed by a fantastic finish in the last minute of the game.

Forgot that tool Pardew was manager of charlton at the time. Makes it better!

Also I remember that Fulham game, Beattie scored a boss chip and McFadden scored that and I was thinking we were going to have a couple of nominations for goal of the month on match of the day, but if I remember correctly pretty much every goal scored that afternoon was a screamer.

I'm afraid that's just nonsense. Get bored of this 'clueless manager playing him out of position' stuff as well. Just like Bilya - neither player went on to excel for any other club or country manager.
He had a nice touch but was slow and weak.

Maybe he stayed for his fambly, or maybe he got paid better here but I thought he could have been boss in a number of leagues where he'd get time on the ball. It was never going to work in England, but they would have erected a statue of him at say AZ Alkamaar.

Watch it closely but before hand take of the rose tinted glasses ffs

Good finish yeah but about same amount of skill as Beckfords goals against Chelsea
