For the 'why doesn't he play for..? .' crowd

It's still farcical all these tears from him. It's because of the obscene contracts he's been taking for years that's put them in this mess to begin with. There's genuinely people dying all over the world (in Spain it's particularly bad) because of a pandemic and people who've lost their jobs and can't pay the bills. Yet he's wailing like a little girl because he's got to go and live in Paris and wear a different type of football kit than he's used too. Jesus wept.

Hes been at the club from his teens through to close to retirement, nowt wrong with showing some emotion. The idea that he's not allowed to be emotional because he's moving to Paris is pretty silly. You can be rich and still be sad leaving somewhere you've lived and played for 15 odd years.

€555 million over 4 years. Sure that hasn't contributed to the current situation at all.

Do you think its his responsibility to check whether a deal is financially responsible for the club or not ? He's a footballer, probably a bit thick.... if your club offers you obscene money you presume its because they can afford to do so. The club are to blame, don't offer contracts you cant afford to pay.

Why even call press conference? Why does he need to sob his eyes out in front of the cameras? It's a joke, all stage-managed by Barca to try and paint themselves somehow as victims in all of this. Lost all respect for them as a club after the Super League attempt, now they're just an utter laughing stock. Cryuff would be turning in his grave.

Absolute joke if its that upsetting to him that he has to treat leaving barcelona and go elsewhere that bawling his eyes and crying on the levels akin to attending a loved ones funeral then he can stop the pain and hurt and make it all better and play for barca for a 10th of his current wage surely he cant be that skint. I think hes crying as he has to leave his comfort zone hes lived in all his career where hes lauded over by all and sundry and venture to pastures new where its all alien to him.i reckon hes bricking it as he knows pressure will be on to perform and the spotlight will be on him every game will be scrutinised. Another reason i think ronaldo is the superior of the two.messi knows barca and champions league not much more.ronaldo by plying his trade in other leagues and still doing the business and winning things.

Lots of folks here don't understand emotional relativism, or relativism in general. It may not be real to you, but it can be real to someone else. Not sure why this is difficult to grasp.

As to the press conference, it would be highly strange if he didn't call a press conference, as the Barca fans would feel snubbed...he had no choice but to do this, even if he didn't want to.

If you want to have a go at someone who is rich and didn't necessarily earn it, have a go at Bezos or some inheritance-clown with a hyphenated last name. Messi wasn't born into royalty.

Surely this whole stunt is a ploy to try and make La Liga bend the knee as if Barcelona can't afford Messi then the whole product is degraded. Both Barca and Messi say they would keep the status quo but are being forced into this.

Indeed. They're shitting on the league, just as they did with the super league garbage and clearly want it all to still happen despite the disgust across Europe. They're a disgrace to their motto.

It's not Messi's fault that Bartomeu was the Catalan version of Peter Ridsdale.

Handing him a $555 million 4 year contract package with a $100 million signing on fee and a $77 million loyalty bonus and $2 million a week wages.

Is it no wonder Barca are in a financial mess, when Messi was getting those extortionate wages his team mates were also getting pay bumps in contract extensions, handing griezmann a €850k a week contract was another Bartomeu masterstroke in financial incompetence.
