Everton's 3 underwhelming signings make perfect sense now. They've been saving the cash for Messi's wages.
Sign him up on a 3 year contract then make him manager for the opening season in the new stadium with Koeman as his assistant.
Everton become the biggest attraction in world football within 5 years.

Many a true word said in jest, if only Rob.

The obscene money he's on has come back to bite him.
But has it? Either La Liga change their plans and he stays, probably still on the absurd money they're offering him, or he goes to PSG and gets absurd money.

For all this supposed love for Barca, he is happy to labour them with absolutely astronomical wage costs, which they probably can't afford in the long-term.

If he goes to the MLS, it will be in his long-term financial interests too.

He must be insanely wealthy already though, and reaching the stage in his career when he's nearer the end than the beginning, so you'd think he'd happily sacrifice a few bob if it meant he won things. What price do you reckon he put on winning the Copa America, for instance? I dare say he'd have his choice of "not Barcelona" teams if he dropped his wage demands significantly, but it doesn't appear as though he's going to do that.

I do wonder with both he and Ronaldo that they've become so subsumed by their undoubted individual brilliance and desire for individual records that as their powers wane any team they end up in becomes subservient to them rather than the other way round. That's why neither was ever rumoured to be a target for Bayern, who prioritise the team over individuals.

TBF they could have afforded Messi, but that would have required the idiot Bartomeu not to spunk hundreds of millions on players as well as paying Messi what they were.
