Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

When my daughter was born almost 11 years ago, we had the biggest storm that I've ever witnessed in the US. Almost 13 inches of snow so we got stuck at the hospital with a newborn. The nursing staff and doctors were not allowed to leave so the whole hospital went under lock down. It was weird not able to go home or for my family members not to be able to visit but the staff at the hospital were amazing and I was so grateful to having them there assisting us. So that's my story about getting stuck at someone's workplace, just not my workplace lol
Born during a snow storm is such a beautiful way to start your life.

Our climate here is that middle of the road that even a squiff of snow has the trains and buses off like it’s a unseen catastrophic event.

I agree, and unlike me, my daughter loves the winter and the coldness.

What made this time more special was that because of the snow storm nobody was able to visit us so the first few days we spent them just with her, without family interruptions so we were able to bond a lot which was great. As you can see she was a little tiny creature. Those were the days.

Here in Asheville it used to snow a lot more but in the past decade I can notice the effects of climate change as now days we even get warm days in December and hardly any snow. Last year we got some but prior to that it had been a couple of years since we gotten any. So when snows here it literally freezes everything, schools close, stores close and even some roads are no drivable. We are a mess.

Yummy, it is my daughter's favorite! She asked me just a few days ago if I would bake her one so now that you are posting about it, I am just remembering so I better get one going too. What cheese will you be using on yours?
I have a vintage cheddar that I bought from one of the cheap supermarkets here but it is really tasty ,I am biased as cheddar is my favourite cheese .My wife loves apfenzeller but for me the good old cheddar .

So nice to have good neighbours at a time like this Fred -priceless as long as the coffee is good .
My wife takes lots of tablets on Tuesdays and can't take any dairy so we have started to drink lemon tea as a change ( memories of Turkey ) but we are struggling to get a similar tasting one to the first we tried
. Good luck with the paperwork ,I leave it to the missus.
These are good neighbours and friends. I don't drive so they have been ferrying me about everywhere since Cal died, including a 350 mile journey upto Liverpool for the funeral.

Yeah. I used to leave all the paperwork up to the missus too mate. Dealt with house Insurance and Green Flag renewal today. Just doing a couple of things a day as I find it quite emotional advising people. Try and do it by email if I can as I find it easier.

Cutting down on coffee intake probably isn't a bad thing mate.I try not to drink too much. Usually just the one of a morning, alternated with tea every other day, But my neighbours seem to have this endless flow of free coffees from different memberships, and they don;t like to pass up anything free. Our village is miles from anywhere so they probably spend more in petrol than they get back in free coffees lol

I see she got her looks from her dad !

Afternoon. I know its Morning there hope you had a good sleep.

It's been cold here as well. I have put the central heating on as it's daft being cold when I don't need to be.

The trick with snow is being snowed into your house not your work place.
Still quite mild down here mate. A barmy 12 degrees today. But there's also this band of rain showers over Wesr Cornwall all day. When you see he weather maps it's basically right over our house. The rest of Cornwall and the South West looks quite sunny.

I understand how it must feel taking Cal's job doing the paperwork but it will make you stronger unlike the coffee ,in Finland the coffee is reputedly great but one cup and I am up all night ,it is also served quite warm not hot which is strange but I will have one with the guests tomorrow and that will do me for a month . How about learning to drive -one tip the car won't go sideways - it is not as hard as you think .When I learned in the 70's the instructor told me to use my x-ray vision and "see" where the wheels were ,it was much easier to park and turn with that advice .It would also be something to get you out of the house .

A few people have suggested it to me as you would imagine. if I decide to stay down here it is something i will have to seriously consider. I'm not rushing into a decision on that yet though. I'm 60, and whilst it's not to old to learn to drive, it's not something I'm going to achieve with 6 lessons either.

I met a guy who learned to fly a plane at over 70 .There is life in the old dog yet .
One thing about shipping out don't take or make too many changes yet , I am sure you think differently every day but one step at a time is best I think . I know the test is much harder than when I took it in 1966 but if you have a challenge it could be a help in taking your mind of things and what an acheivement if you do it .I learned to ski downhill at 51 swim at 56 and I am still learning how to be sensible at 72 .
Sleep well and google driving test ;-)

Vintage cheddar sounds fancy and tasty. I’m also using cheddar as it is one of my daughter’s favorite too.

How dare you lol

Tbh she is a good mixed of both. Café con leche.

Good evening Messy. How's you're day been? Hope it's been a good one.

Good evening to everybody else as well. Today I have mostly been reading. All work related, hundreds of pages of social services report. As a result I have also been eating. Non stop, all sh*te as well. It's a toss up between husband's birthday cake or a Bombay Bad Boy Pot Noodle as to which of those was the healthiest part of my diet. I need to get a grip. Monday, definitely Monday.....

Don't know if I told you that I had tickets to see Hartlepool v Everton U21s on 9 November. Imagine my surprise when my son messaged me last Tuesday and said "That match we are going to next week is on tonight" Checked email, confirmation said November 9th and I'm sure when I booked the tickets the website said 9th. Opened e ticket and date said 2nd November. WTF? Emailled Hartlepool who admitted that yes, the match was advertised as November 9th but it was an EFL scheduling error. I'm getting my money back (probably give it to Everton in the Community) but at least I know I'm not losing the plot! Bit disappointed though - was looking forward to seeing the mighty blues without a 300 mile round trip attached. Just hope nobody shows up on 9th!
