Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Match report: Totally different to an English experience. Arrived at the first security gate. Showed our tickets - ID please. Whaaat? Played the dumb English tourist. We don't need ID in England. We haven't brought any. Oh, this is problem. After suggesting we walk back to our hotel (35 minutes) to fetch it, I remembered that I had photos of our passports on my phone. No idea why - possibly COVID fit to fly requirements from ages ago. These were acceptable as proof of ID. Phew!
Found our seats amongst a noisy section of Lazio fans, none of whom were actually sitting anywhere. They stood, on the walkways near the barriers, some stood on their seats, and nobody was bothered. They sang and made obscene gestures towards the Milan fans. The sign for w*nker appears to be universal.
Pre match there were fireworks and an eagle ( Lazio are The Eagles) flew a couple of laps of the stadium before returning to its handler and bizarrely they all sang My Way, in English, led by an official on pitch singer. (Not as good as Z Cars!) However what blew my mind were the vendors walking round amongst the crowd, selling beer, soft drinks, crisps and popcorn.
I had no idea that Sarri ( ex Chelsea) was Lazio's manager. As the match started, nobody sat down, still nobody was bothered, a bloke produced a megaphone from his bag and orchestrated the chanting and singing, the lad next to me lit up a spliff. At last I thought, that makes me feel like it's Goodison!
AC Milan were awful, Giroud didn't get a kick and was subbed early second half. Lazio looked decent and won easily. A fun night, including Amy Winehouse tribute act at half time, was had by all. 20230124_220305.webp20230124_202655.webp20230124_205033.webp20230124_200743.webp

Fun pics!! In the US, pretty much all of the sports venues have food and drink vendors walking the stands.

Only in Italy would winking be considered a rude gesture

I turn 40 later this year, which probably explains why all the new bedding plus new mattress I’ve treated myself to arriving yesterday day was one of the most exciting days I’ve had in ages lol

New duvet, goose feather pillows to go with the fleece bedding set I got for Christmas.
The new mattress is a 24inch deep, hybrid, air springs topped with comfort gel and memory foam.
My god, haven’t had a sleep like that in years…

Is this my life now? Getting all excited about new furniture? It started a few years back when I realised socks & a new pair of slippers were a great Christmas present… now this!

Christ, what have I become? lol

You will be looking out the window for the postman next

Today was 'Ancient Rome' day. I have to confess that archaeological sites do nothing for me. Probably heresy but my philosophy has been 'you've seen one rock, you've seen them all' This has held fast from Binchester Roman Fort (near where we used to live) to the world renowned palace at Knossus in Crete. So I wasn't expecting to be inspired. However the Colosseum is staggering. Still standing after 2000 or so years, it is truly awesome. I especially loved that there are gate numbers above the arches. Even 2000 years ago, you had to enter sporting events through the right gate!
The Forum is also amazing- you actually can imagine the ancient Romans going about their business.
In other news I have yet to have an ice cream. This will be put right later.20230125_115736.webp20230125_115823.webp20230125_115853.webp

It's been all go today. Went to the supermarket this morning and when I got back went around to the neighbours for coffee and was there for more than 2 hours. That's more excitement than I've had in the rest of the month combined.

Haven't done a supermarket shop since early December so was running short of essentials, particularly washing machine tablets. I was on the verge of putting an urgent request in to H for some knickers. Anyway it was the son who took me and it was good to catch up with him for a chat. His mum and dad are away on another cruise at the beginning of March so I may get him around for a curry and a few beers. He's a good kid.

The neighbour, despite the warnings yesterday, was in good form. I think I bring out the best in him. But there was a definite atmosphere when the brother showed his face to say hello. The cruise wasn't quite the disaster I had pictured, or maybe he was just in a better mood today. Anyway, Michelle really enjoyed it and went para-gliding in Rio. Good on her. I bet you screamed I said to her. No I didn't actually was the reply. Anyway, Rob showed me a video he had on his phone and she must have screamed for the first 30 seconds.lol
