Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Some nice news from my lad and his GF, who some may recall are in NZ on a 2 year work/holiday visa. Plan A was to travel for 6 or 8 weeks, then get jobs in Wellington.

Well, the travel itch has been scratched, and they both landed jobs at KPMG, starting soon. No idea what they will be doing, but I doubt NZ lob visas around for cleaners or tea makers. Nice innit?
That's great. Good for them.

Not that anybody is remotely bothered but finally resolved the issue of my missing delivery. Half of Saturday evening was spent exchanging emails with the retailer during which they sent me a photograph of the bin shed where the parcel had been delivered. Not my house I said. Furthermore, I don't recognise it as being in the close where i live. But the following day, just to make sure, I showed the pic to the neighbours when I was out for lunch with them. That's Emily's they said. Emily is the young veggie who lives next door to me and I probably walk within 10 feet of said bin shed 2 or 3 times a week.. What was that Cal said about me never noticing things?. lol Anyway I got on to the retailer to tell them that the person to whom my parcel had been delivered had kindly redelivered it by hand and the issue was now resolved. Actually, I was very impressed (not easily done I can tell you) by how they handled things and would definitely use them again.

On to the parcel itself, I was disappointed to find that it didn't actually contain any crab bollox Pete, something i'll need to take up with the retailer. But it did contain the hot sauce I use for my spicy chicken fried rice and in other marinades. Actually it was an old sauce that we used to use but that the Chinese supermarkets in Liverpool stopped supplying about 5/7 years ago, so we started using a similar one from the same makers. This one, made from fermented black beans and chilli, is the real McCoy though and absolutely blows your socks off. Made it last night and it was wonderful. Cal would be so jealous I've found it.

I posted in the 'Minor happiness thread' how I had ordered a parcel back in November, but it never turned up. The courier confirmed this back in December.

Eventually, I got a refund from the retailer after much discussion because at first they contested my point it had never been delivered - they wanted proof!

The courier confirming that they had no evidence that it had been collected by themselves, let alone, delivered appeared not enough, as I had to prove it.

Anyway, they gave me a refund back in January, yet yesterday the parcel appeared by a different courier at our house, with a November delivery date on it.

Oh well... The money I'll recoup on the time will go towards paying for the Union Berlin away kit my son has been asking for, which needs to come from Germany.

Can I ask the name of the sauce, as that sounds lovely?

Hello folks. Hope you are all OK. Glad you solved your parcel mystery @Barnfred 55 .Loving the rain pics @Vegas Toffee Girl . Your weather reports have made me realise that Vegas has quite a varied climate. So I've learned something new. Thank you.

It's been a nice morning here but has just started raining - great big splashy drops. The highlight of my day so far has been going to get diesel. Gym later and fajitas for tea - with home made guacamole.

Have a lovely day.

This is the one Phil by a company called Koon yick wah Kee. The other one they do which is very similar is called Guilin Style chilli sauce and is made with fermented black soya bean rather than black beans. Both are really nice and pack a punch. They are great to add to marinade ti provide some heat. If used on its own I suggest you cook the chicken by frying. I tried grilling kebab style on the bbq once but it was too hot even for me. I found I was scraping the marinade off before I could eat it?

Merci. My friend owns a Chinese restaurant in town, so I'm going to ask him if he can source it for me.

W just watched the first two episodes of Rick Stein series three and found myself wondering all the way through what touched you Fred, was it the gardens ?
There are some fantastic places down there ,a shame you don't have a taxi driver friend .
I would love to spend time in Cornwall checking out all his finds .
A lad couple that we used to live by have promised to go to Italy with us if we win the lotto to check out all the restaurants visited by one of the TV chefs ,thing is I forget who but ne'er mind we won't be winning the lottery !

The couple from Wales in episode 2 who wrote a book about walking the coastal path and now live down here making cider. Google "The Salt Path" Blue. It gives the background to their story.

But to be honest, I just love watching anything to do with Cornwall. Most things are familiar to me. And I fully intend to make a lot more use of public transport this spring/summer and get out more.

Log store was running low, not critical, but perhaps a week or so left. So left a message for "Stu from the pub" earlier, expecting a call in a few days. Blow me, he popped over this affy, and included a pile of hard wood, long burning Ash for us. Means I will have to go the pub tomorrow to pay him. Had worse days like.

I went to the gym with the daughter tonight. We started with the leg press. Our PT put some relatively light weights on and I foolishly, and jokingly said, 'That must mean we're doing about 500 reps' His response was ' great idea'. We managed to talk him down to 200. And that was only the first thing we did!I can barely walk. It was the most brutal hour I've ever experienced.

Fajitas!! Yum! And I love me some guacamole!! ?

Happy to share some of Vegas with you virtually! :) A lot of people in the US think Vegas is dry and hot all year-round.

Here is another video from yesterday. It lightly snowed at my house for almost 3 hours, but none of it stuck. This video is for part of town that is at an even higher elevation than where I'm at.

Been to Vegas many times as it’s only a 3 hour flight from here, use to play in the footie tournament they hold over the Martin Luther King weekend

The prices for us tourists are mad now, use to be a cheap weekend no longer, but saying that I do tell people that haven’t visited you have to experience Vegas at least once, watched the Beatles love a few times it’s brilliant
