Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Been to Vegas many times as it’s only a 3 hour flight from here, use to play in the footie tournament they hold over the Martin Luther King weekend

The prices for us tourists are mad now, use to be a cheap weekend no longer, but saying that I do tell people that haven’t visited you have to experience Vegas at least once, watched the Beatles love a few times it’s brilliant
Nice! I'm trying to think of which tournament you're talking about. I'll look it up!

I hear that a lot from tourists. There used to be really good deals for locals on the strip, half price shows, free parking etc., but not many anymore

Off the strip casinos are where most of the locals go and the prices are still decent. Surprisingly (or maybe not) the grocery store slot machines have some of the best odds! lol

Log store was running low, not critical, but perhaps a week or so left. So left a message for "Stu from the pub" earlier, expecting a call in a few days. Blow me, he popped over this affy, and included a pile of hard wood, long burning Ash for us. Means I will have to go the pub tomorrow to pay him. Had worse days like.
Burnt Log Ash is the best to throw on your garden after a nights fire as a muclh adding potassium to your soil - let the rain wash it in let it cool off first ,.....

The couple from Wales in episode 2 who wrote a book about walking the coastal path and now live down here making cider. Google "The Salt Path" Blue. It gives the background to their story.

But to be honest, I just love watching anything to do with Cornwall. Most things are familiar to me. And I fully intend to make a lot more use of public transport this spring/summer and get out more.
I remember that clip Fred the love for their cider shows through ,"you can taste the history " .

Good luck with the treatment. I spotted some Yorkshire biscuit brew teabags recently, decided to give them a try not expecting much. I quite like them, taste like a mixture of tea and malted milk biscuits, going to try the jam and toast brew next.

Morning all, bit rainy here this morning but very mild. I had a request from my cousin’s wife yesterday to identify myself on an old school photo which prompted the inevitable memories especially our nemesis the sports mistress. Games lessons were met with universal dread especially hockey which was played whatever the weather and definitely no jackets or gloves allowed, fingers frozen to the bone unable to hold the hockey stick properly while she sat in the pavilion drinking coffee. Another torture was to run the length of the field and back time after time until we could hardly stand whilst being told “When you are absolutely exhausted you still have two thirds of your energy left, keep going” (something to remember during your gym sessions @anjelikaferrett lol) Happiest days?….bah humbug. Have a good day all.?

Thanks for the well wishes ,it was more than he thought but he was happy so am I ,it is same again in 4/6 months .
As promised here is the fish counter ,the orange stuff ! Is rainbow trout eggs that are used on blinis around now with sour cream .We will have them next week and photos will follow .

Pleased everything is OK. Nice fish.

It was their personal journey that resonated with me Blue. And the fact that the county called to them and they now couldn't imagine living anywhere else. These current Stein series, whilst still having an undercurrent foody theme, are more about the people of Cornwall which is probably why i enjoy them so much.

There was an episode in the last series about a retired couple from Cambourne (one of the poorest areas in the whole country never mind Cornwall) who dedicated their lives to providing a food bank out of an old church building in the town. I remembered the husband because a short while earlier Simon Reeves had filmed a scene with him about the food bank, and his wife had just died from cancer. Obviously the Rick Stein scene had been filmed first and televised later. But what really struck me was that in the Stein clip there was no mention at all of the wife's illness, even though it was clear that she didn't have long to live. Plus, in the Reeves clip, the husband hadn't even buried his wife but was still dedicating his time to the food bank. Totally selfless people, and dare I say quite typical of down here.

I woke up this morning to mizzle H. Mizzle is the local term for the very fine rain that for years has been prevalent in this part of Cornwall during the cold months, especially late autumn/early winter. But the reason I mention it now is that it's the first time this winter that we've seen it. It's only my fourth winter down here and even in this short time I can see the significant change. Is it part of the effects of global warming?

I'll remember that. Aaaahhh the terrors of gym teachers! We had one who would fling the shower doors open when you were inside to make sure you were actually getting a shower and not just wetting your hair. I'm sure there would be many many child protection issues over that if it happened now. Then there was doing cross country running around Sefton Park - getting detention for taking a short cut across the middle. Also detention for eating lunch in the long jump sandpit instead of actually long jumping. Being put in the school netball team as goal shooter because 'you're tall'. The fact I couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo was totally irrelevant. PE school report 'Rather dizzy. All arms and legs' Cheeky mare!! And finally our young male physics teacher in suit and tie giving a demo on how to throw a discus, making an absolute dogs dinner of his attempt and launching it through the window of one of the flats next door to us on Ullet Road.

As you can tell I've always been an athlete ? ? ?
