Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good morning folks. Its a lovely day here but rain forecast later. I'm catching up on Everton news which isn't a tough task because there doesn't seem to be any.

Oh my goodness. I remember it being red hot the day we
walked up and having a oicnic kunch amongst the Roman Fort ruins!
Fair play to Cal's driving skills. I've only been really scared once - driving along the side of a loch in Scotland- we had a sheer mountainside on one side, about 6 inches of spare road and then about a 20ft drop into the loch. Mr F needed clean undies that day!
According to the homepage we've agreed a loan for Danjuma and he's having a medical today.

The road in Zante was pretty much like that except it was probably a 2/300 ft sheer drop. Hardnott Pass was probably worse though. Whilst we couldn't actually see the terrain due to the mist, we knew what was there as we'd literally just come the other way moments before.

Good morning all on the sunny day here in Finland .I hope all are well and had a good night especially @Terrarian .
Well this is the first time I have watched boys comparing the size of their hills .I won't post as mine is small ,we don't have big ones in Finland .Cue @Barnfred 55 . Have a great day all COYB
We don't really have hills in Cornwall Blue, just slopes and plenty of them. You'll probably know them better as batters though ;)

My worst driving experience was in Madeira with a sheer drop on my right in the mountains. Honestly it was absolutely no fun whilst Granny and Mrs J were chuntering on about where they would go for lunch.
I've never been brave enough to drive in Europe. I did drive when we went to LA. Never ever again. I'm only driving if I'm in a country that drives the same as us!

Not brown I hope ,the clean ones !

Not driving but we were skiing in Austria and the clouds came down over us ,my wife had been skiing for 40 years but refused to take the lead .I followed the poles marking the edge of the slope ,it was terrible -when you ski downhill you go up as well as down -when we got to one of the up bits with no speed it was really hard ,the skis are not meant for going uphill .once or twice we stood upright only to fall over as we had no reference to "upright" .When we cleared the cloud the guy on the lift looked at us ! You could imagine what he was thinking .

Yes there is Anj. Cal and I were driving up to see it once many moons ago and a mist descended upon us half way there. You couldn't see a more than a few yards in front of you. We decided the best plan was to retrace our steps and descend below what we believed to be a cloud, Not an easy decision to make given the road and terrain. We managed to find somewhere to turn the car around and literally crawled at a snails pace for about an hour before we could see again. God knows what we'd have done had we encountered a car coming the other way.

Cal was never a nervous driver but I'd never seen her so frightened behind the wheel as she was that day. Perhaps maybe one day in Zante driving down a cliff pass to some restaurant. Both were my ideas as she frequently reminded me afterwards.lol
Zante has some hellish roads - the one down to Port Vromi scares the living daylights out of me. Once met a coach coming the other way. Nearly fainted.

I’ve driven in Greece but only on the v quiet roads - lose my nerve in resorts and towns. Mr P once took us the wrong way round a roundabout in Spain. Luckily it was extremely quiet with no other cars on the road.

It was 1994 but I think we are referring to the same place Val. Is there a waterside restaurant at the bottom that any sane person would travel too by boat?.

We had a similar experience to you but with a JCB. Cal hugged the inside even though she was on the wrong side of the road and this JCB went trundling past inches away vfrom the edge 😀

It’s on the sunset side of the island and has a tiny harbour where a few small boats take people round to the shipwreck beach - navaggio. I can’t remember a taverna to be honest but that’s probably because after the car journey down and the boat to the beach I’ve not had much of an appetite! There are a couple of other similar roads with tavernas - maybe you’re thinking of Porto limnionas or Porto rouxa- both lovely and you get in the sea off the rocks there. I love Zante- it’s so much more beautiful than it’s party reputation suggests.

Interesting. I didn't think it was that wonderful in relation to its neighbour Kefalonia.
However we haven't been for 15 years or so and we're thinking of going back next year
Any recommendations on where to base ourselves ( not driving!)
