Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good morning from a currently dry Liverpool- as in it isn't raining but everywhere is soaking wet. We're just waiting for a visit from the extended family - nephews and great niece. That will be fun.
As far as Maths goes I have to confess that my Grade C O Level was achieved with extensive assistance from a friend of my parents who was a Maths teacher and who gave me extra lessons. I truly am rubbish at Maths. (See my post in the Hell thread!)
Can we talk about tinned salmon after @Val P 's story. It is food of the gods. I love tinned salmon sandwiches. Add some vinegar and mix! It's also awesome with mash.

Morning all, currently dry but cloudy here. We’re pondering whether to go to the Willowfest this afternoon. Let there B/DC are playing and also Not the Beautiful South just not sure about the weather as showers are forecast and the state of the embankment after yesterday’s rain. Decisions , decisions.
@anjelikaferrett enjoy your family reunion, any salmon on the menu?
Tinned salmon sandwiches were a great treat on high days and holidays when I was growing up. Pink (we couldn’t afford the red) mixed with vinegar and pepper. I had only ever eaten the tinned variety so when presented with fresh salmon at a wedding reception I had to force it down. I thought it tasted awful. I must have been well into my twenties, I’m such a peasant! lol
Have a good day, all.💙

Add some spring onion and salad cream to the tinned salmon , bliss

Hello friends. Have just got home after driving through some of the most horrendous weather ever. Add to that a 45 minute delay on the M6 which I cleverly thought I would avoid by coming off at Blackpool and taking the A6.Turned into a not so scenic tour of the Fylde peninsular with lake sized puddles on the roads! The A66 was blowing a gale so the rain was horizontal! Really awful. However, we had a lovely time seeing everybody and I'm off work until Thursday.
I'm sad The Ashes have been decided by weather. The only way the Aussies can validate their victory is by winning the last match. Otherwise it will always be 'what if it hadn't rained at Old Trafford?'

There are plenty of "what ifs" in the series Anje.

Like, the final test in 2005 was rained/lighted off, granted, with Aussie a bit behind the 8 ball, giving England the 2 1 win.

Very interesting points Val.
I was probably the opposite.
Despite working my way up through the legal profession from office junior to telephonist to trainee legal executive to solicitor and eventually partner I never managed to master typing or acquire decent keyboard or IT skills.
In part this was a generational issue but in all honesty I never got to grips with it despite enrolling and paying myself for a touch typing course.
As a legal executive and solicitor I always had a secretary and as a partner a PA.
Towards the end of my career all solicitors were encouraged to do their own typing.
Increasingly secretaries were made redundant.
I disagreed. It was a shortsighted and backwards step. Not because solicitors shouldn't type but a trained secretary will be faster , more accurate and generally be error free.
It was absurd to expect senior solicitors working in my team on catastrophic injury claims where you will often have to produce a witness statement over 30 pages long to not only draft it but then type it .
Anyway it was all part of a move for "efficiency" which saw things done quicker and with less staff and which in reality meant a significant lowering of quality and standards and ultimately impacted upon the client
So , I saw the writing in the wall and got out before my own standards were compromised.
I suspect that what happened in the legal profession is mirrored in other areas.

In praise of PA’s I had them throughout my career. Did I type, no, I dictated and she would amend it to what I meant. The best I ever had was a lady who came from the medical industry. I asked her to set up a Conference in Rome for 350 delegates from around the world and she arranged everything, asking me only for what I wanted out of it and who I wanted speaking at it. She did the lot, liaising with with delegates and speakers from America, Europe, China etc. all I had to do was arrive, deliver the keynote speeches at the beginning and end of the conference. She received a massive end of year bonus as a result. Even after I retired from the company she would still arrange flights and hotels for me. The best PA I ever had…..wonderful woman……

You are so right. In Land Registry we had a lady whose job was photocopying. If ypu have ever seen old conveyancing documents some of the documents are enormous and the plans were the size of tablecloths. This lady could photocopy anything and stick everything together perfectly. She was brilliant. Somebody decided that we could do without her, we could copy our own documents. Bad move, it took most of us hours to successfully copy and stick together big documents and plans. Not to mention the colossal waste of paper and sticky tape from our bitched efforts! Eventually everything was computerised so her job would have become redundant but they took that step years too early.

Good morning all on this fine day again here in Hyvinkää. I hope all are well and had a great night's sleep. Off to the garage today to see if they have had time to do my old Jaguar suspension bushes ,if they have I have to reorder the brake switch and this time hope it is the correct one .Then it is a blast down the motorway to clear her throat and hope she passes the emissions test . Have a great day .COYB
P.S.For the first time in my life I am not excited by a new signing ,he could be a great one but the stuffing / hope has gone . I suppose it is because we are far weaker than last season with less players ,time left I would imagine to trawl the depths for those no one else wants .If Kevin and co do it well they deserve a medal. At the moment I am feeling all @jazzy .

Good Morning all. The sun is shining- so today will be a traditional Monday washing day. Ready for a chilled day after a busy weekend. Took my son to look for his wedding suit yesterday which was fairly fruitless as at 6 foot 5 it is difficult to get one. In a true motherly fashion I have been nagging him for a while to get it sorted but he’s last minute as usual. We’ve ordered it online in the end and I’ve got everything crossed that when it arrives it fits 🤞🤞🤞. I love his chilled attitude to things 98% of the time and wish I was more like that, but occasionally it drives me crazy.
Like you @blue1948 I am not excited by anything Everton related at the moment. I’m even tired of the same old new player interview where they are obviously told to include in their own words the topics of
1. the history of this great club
2. playing at Goodison
3. the fans and the support
4. what it’s been like when I have played at Goodison before
5. the managers plans and the move to the new stadium.
I swear if I put an Everton kit on and sat in front of the camera I could do one with no rehearsal. Yet in spite of this there’s that little bit of hope that says come 12th of August everything will fall into place and we’ll finish top half and win the FA cup.
Have a great day everyone whatever you are up to 😊

Our daughter decided that university was not for her so she applied for a job at a local company. The chap who interviewed her noticed on her CV that she worked in the Posh shop on matchdays. Turned out he was a season ticket holder and she got the job. She went on day release for shorthand and typing etc and she’s now his PA.

Morning all, no chance of washday here @Val P as it‘s pouring. We decided to go to the Willow Festival yesterday as the weather cleared up and it was lovely afternoon. Had a good time although I thought £6 was a bit excessive for two cups of tea! Nothing planned for today, wouldn’t be surprised to get a call from grandkids saying they are bored. lol
Have a good day, all.💙
