Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

@Gwladysover my daughter also decided she didn't want to go to uni. After a couple of temp jobs after she left school she got taken on by a fostering agency as a receptionist. She ended up as a placement officer - matching kids and carers and doing all the processes around that. So she has worked her way up too. I think she would really like to do social work but still doesn't want to commit to any more education!
I can really understand that. I feel so sorry for kids going to Uni , getting good qualifications and still unable to get a job but saddled with debt.

BTW @Val P and @anjelikaferrett and indeed anyone else who loves Greece ......absolutely killing me to see the terrible pictures and stories from Rhodes ( and now Corfu ). Just as they were getting back on their feet after covid this happens to the Greek tourist industry , I feel so sad for them.

We've stayed in one of the hotels that apparently burnt down. Just terribly sad.
It is. It will be devastating for them. I keep checking the temperatures where we are going and they have low 30s so nothing outrageous.

Is he a rat though T - do any modern footballers really care ?

Think about it this way mate. You go for a job and the person that hired you , that sold you the vision of how great it's going to be gets sacked the following day. Naturally that worries you a bit and you think how stable the situation is. Then another company , with much nicer working conditions and potentially better prospects comes along and makes you an offer. What you going to do ?
Yeah, I understand that but his decision could have sent us down. He's here now, I'm sure a goal or two and all will be forgiven. Just left a nasty taste in the mouth and it made him look like a mercenary. Why are Villarreal so desperate to get rid, he did well for them, are they struggling financially or something?

I got a B, I had an A going into the exam off my coursework but I am not good at exams. Maths is my strong suit, I love it even now, algebra and everything, I even enjoyed calculus lol I didn't get over a C in anything else because I can't do exams and don't put the required effort into revising. Once I have an answer in my head it is impossible to see a different outcome.
Good to hear that your headaches have eased, hope you got your meds sorted. My inability to do Maths caused me no end of heartache at school and I was so relieved when at 14 they decided I was never going to pass O level and I was able to give up algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Logarithms and rods what are they all about and does anyone use them these days?

Now that is the big question T. He had a stellar reputation at Bournemouth ( well maybe not stellar but very good lol ) and I have no idea why he and Villarreal have fallen out of love

Good afternoon folks and welcome back @Terrarian - even if you don't share my appreciation of tinned salmon
🤣. I'm glad you're headache free today and hope you get the prescription sorted.
I've had a lovely morning. Daughter starts her night shifts tonight so we've had a bit of a Mum and daughter shopping trip, including getting our nails and eyebrows done. Then we went for lunch. Bank of Mum is slightly depleted ut I don't mind. It was really nice spending time with her.
I'm feeling OK about Everton but then again I usually do at this time of year. Drama free season finishing 9th-14th, nothing to play for by April would be fine for me.
Sounds like a wonderful morning

It’s heartbreaking isn’t it, and whilst the press are at the moment focusing on holiday makers getting home, let’s not forget that some people have lost everything- homes, possessions, businesses. However Greece is a big country and this is only on two of the islands so I hope people are not too hasty but I fear they will be. It wouldn’t stop me going if I were due to travel to a different place than Rhodes or Corfu, so please don’t worry @anjelikaferrett it will be fine by the time you go I’m 100% sure of that.
I went to Zante for many years and made some very dear friends there and they used to tell us of fires being started deliberately, in one case two men were arrested for starting a fire and it transpired that they had been paid to do it by Russians wanting to build hotels etc on the land. There was a fire nearly every year in Zante but fortunately they were usually sorted within a day or two and without major trauma. We were once driving through the hills and got stopped by the fire brigade due to a fire. Interestingly two of the fire men were having a ciggy. I love the Greeks.
Let’s hope they get things back under control without loss of life.

Sounds like she’s done really well, and you’re never too old to train to do something like social work - I would think life skills are an advantage. Has she thought about whether you can do part time study? In the NHS they are keen on getting more AHPs in by a work/study route. If she felt like she wanted to of course

Completely agree Val. We are going to Lesvos in September and very much looking forward to it. The Greeks need responsible tourists like never before

I agree. I feel so sorry for the people who have lost everything - worrying about your holiday seems like a first world problem compared to what's going on.

Hi I'm @messymascot aka Karl. I was diagnosed with a cancer called mesothelioma in 2019 after nearly 10 years of illness. Unfortunately this is an incurable type of cancer which is caused by asbestos exposure. I'm now entering the final stages as the cancer has grown and is starting to cause complications. Anyone who regularly visits the mental illness and depression thread is probably aware of parts of this story.

Anyways onto the thread title. Several members who visit the above thread, which I can't endorse highly enough both the thread and the regular visitors, wanted to get together and get me a ticket for the match. This was very much appreciated by me but initially I wasn't sure due to my health. However in the meantime @Earwigjoe contacted the club. They then kindly offered to supply 2 complimentary tickets. The 2 tickets were confirmed with myself today and one of my fellow West Cumbrian blues has agreed to travel with me and utilise the other. I will try to remember to take some photos and post them in here but I'm not the best at that sort of thing.

I want to use this thread to highlight what a truly great club we support as it would have been easy for them just to let the lads and lasses pay for the tickets. But I especially want to thank all the people who regularly post in the mental illness thread as they are truly magnificent. I first starting using the thread 3 or 4 years ago when I was going through a tough patch but since then I have been in the thread on a regular basis and there is always someone in there who wants to support another blue who has fallen on hard times. The clubs gesture and the fans in that thread and this forum are what make me proud to be an Evertonian. I love you all even the ones I don't always agree with. COYB The best team we could ever support. I'm glad I was chosen even though being 40 I don't remember the glory days of the 80s.

Sorry if that went on a bit but I needed to get it off my chest.
Inspirational m8, and hopefully Evertonians, will see consistency and better times.
This season, I am genuinely positive about Evertons prospects on the Pitch.
Sean Dyche has done a great job, in adversity.
This season if a few more players get brought in, I believe Everton will be OK, and will surprise the media.

UTFTs!

Worrying about your holiday is perfectly fine - i would be devastated if I couldn’t go, especially when you work so hard through the year. We were due to fly to Lanzarote the week the covid travel restrictions were brought. I was heartbroken as it was a holiday for our 30th wedding anniversary. Plus I couldn’t do my mega hop holiday for my 60th which I’d planned again due to covid and I was gutted. It doesn’t mean I don’t feel for people seriously impacted by it - I just sulked for a long time and then got over it 😂
