Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Me neither. Nikki and I always fancied getting a European train ticket for a month, and just go where we fancied, or ended up. Literally, take it in turns to choose the next train.
That sounds like my kind of trip too. it also reminds me of that tv programm that used to be on called The Dice Man - he used to travel around making decisions on where he went by a throw of the dice - I really enjoyed the programme and the concept.

Morning everyone, looking forward to a lovely sunny day today here. A special day for me as I’m going into Liverpool with my future d-i-l for her final wedding dress fitting. We are meeting her mum there. I feel very fortunate to have such a lovely person in my life, she has included me in so much and is like a daughter to me. There will be tears (happy ones of course).
i can see why cruising is attractive to some and it must be nice to visit lots of places, but it’s not for me. I like to stay in places at least a few days, and bed in properly and get a feel of the place and I hate crowds on summer holidays. That said I’ve always quite fancied a river cruise for a future option, and I do love a city break.
Have a great day all, I hope the sun is shining where you are.

Morning all on this bright clear morning. Re the cruise discussion - Regular readers will probably recall that I’m not much of a traveller, recent trip to Edinburgh being only the second time I’ve left England. lol A cruise would not be for me for the simple reason I would feel trapped, ridiculous on a large ship, I know but the feeling of not being able to return home should I need to would be overwhelming. I have often fancied a trip on the Eurostar but have never had the courage despite being invited by my son and family who have made the trip several times. My Mum made her one and only trip abroad on the Eurostar to Paris in her seventies so there is still time for me…just!
@Val P hope the wedding dress fitting goes well, it’s a special moment and lovely that your future DIL has included you. Say Yes to the Dress is my guilty viewing pleasure but I can only watch when I’m on my own, the husband absolutely hates it.😂😂.
Have a good day all.💙

Talking of travel, I spotted this from our bedroom window early this morning- trip in a hot air balloon would be my absolute nightmare.

My wife bought a trip for me in one of those 30 years ago. There was about five or six of us in it, quite a big basket. Taking off and quietly moving around was fine and enjoyable, then we had to land. Anyway the pillock controlling the balloon picked a field but descended a bit too quickly and we went straight through the upper branches of a tree before he hit the power again then switched it off. We dropped like a stone from about 8-10 feet, hit the deck with a thud, the basket fell over and the wind continued to drag the balloon across the grass. We came to a stop thankfully, got out and looking back could see a basket shaped hole in the tree. Of course we then had to help fold the damn thing up and it weighed a tonne…..

Oh what a special day for you. Have a great time.
As far as cruises go, I loved the only one I've been on. However I wouldn't give up my land based holidays. It did give us ideas of places we would like to explore more which was how we ended up going back to Rome in January. My favourite thing was sitting on our balcony watching the sunset or looking at the moonlight on the water.

Sounds like a super day for you @Val . River cruises are certainly smaller , 140 ish people, and more intimate , Rhine/Danube ones take you through big cities like Vienna and Budapest plus small quaint towns with a bonus of good scenery when you are moving ,,particularly Rhine Gorge.
