Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Hello everybody. We are going to be getting a grandson. Very excited- now I need to work on how to turn him into an Evertonian!! Daddy is a Middlesbrough supporter. It is all very exciting.
This morning I went to the gym. I worked out how to pre program the treadmill so did a proper workout - running was involved. Then I went swimming and then I joined an aqua aerobics class and met a nearly ( next month) 93 year old who did 4 classes a week! Unbelievable. I was in awe. I've also finished wrapping my presents. So, a very productive day. I feel like it could be bedtime soon though🤣.
Last night's meal was lovely. Good food, good company- it doesn't get much better than that.
I'm pleased Mrs Pete showed further improvement today @peteblue . I think the problem in hospitals is that they can treat the symptoms of your wife's chest infection- I'm guessing she's on a ward that specifically deals with that but they may not have the resources or skills to deal with her Alzheimer’s. Their main focus is making people better but when they can't do that, things become more difficult. We had this with my Mum when she was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer. While she was on a general ward, things were very patchy - they didn't know what to do with her. Then she was moved to the palliative care ward it was completely different. The staff there knew that their patients were not going to get better and reacted accordingly. It was a lovely calm serene atmosphere. So I think what I'm trying to say is that your wife probably needs to see other people to help with her Alzheimer’s. I fully agree however about how little help is available for carers. One of my best moments as a union rep was being on the team that successfully campaigned and negotiated a carers leave policy which gave carers up to 10 days leave for caring duties if required and time to attend appointments with the person they were caring for. Previously they had to use their own time.
Awesome news Anj! Not sure why you’d want to bestow a life of misery on them, though. Neither of my kids are blues and I didn’t really have the heart to try and make a case beyond “I arbitrarily followed your granddad and now I’m miserable every weekend.” At least with Boro they’ll have the excitement of the occasional promotion/relegation…

Fingers crossed you and your lovely wife get the help you need/deserve @peteblue .

Congratulations Anj on future lad and Evertonian…all the best…..

Back a while ago, love all of your comments and I do take them on board. Anyway, my wife, her name is Kay by the way, short for Kathryn, had spent two and a half day in bed but we got her up into a chair yesterday, was actually sat in the chair again when I got there today. I again fed her her lunch as she cannot do it herself at the moment. She looked beautiful, so I took a few pictures and sent them to all my kids and did a WhatsApp video with my son and his family in Manila. It didn’t register at all with my wife but at least my son, his wife and family could see her and send regards. My wife spent the day winding up the staff by pulling at leads or whatever else was connected to her, alarms were going off every ten minutes, I thought welcome to my world….

I think they are preparing for her to be transferred out of CDU and into a normal ward tomorrow or the day after. The antibiotics seem to be kicking in and doing their job. Tbh I was shattered by the time I got home

Anyway, keep well folks, lovely to hear about the boy Anj and G your description of your difficult time resonates with me.

I’m off to the hospital tomorrow and I’ll give an update when I get back. A really heartfelt thank you to you all…..

Morning guys, another day beckons. Even though my wife is not here I’m programmed mentally to wake up at this time iin order to be ready to change her…hopefully the hospital are getting used to it as well………have a great day everyone, speak to you all later this evening……
You enjoy a nice cuppa and the time to think . I know that you just cannot turn off "your duty" and you just want to be there but try to take what moments you can. So happy that you sent the photos whilst Kay was looking her best ,it is a terrible time for you all ,I just hope the care offered will be accepted as you need to be strong not wilful -I mean that in it's mildest form . Make sure you check the fact they are changing on time or Kay will get sore .As all on here we think of you both many times a day and hope she is back home soon .Stay strong that man .

Good morning all and congratulations to @anjelikaferrett on the up and coming birth of her grandson . I hope all had a good night and have a wonderful day today .we have found out the car doesn't have a preheater and must have been kept in a warm garage by the previous owner/s so we are having one fitted on Monday .It warms the engine but also has a socket inside to enable a special heater to turn on at the same time ,it is essential for a diesel and recommended for all cars here .Going out at -20 to a cold car is not nice .For any interested this is the system :-
Have a great day all COYB.

You’re amazing mate.
I was able to visit my sister yesterday, she’s in a nursing home in Manchester as she also has Alzheimer’s. I hadn’t seen her for a while so it was a nice surprise for her . It was lovely to spend a few hours with her, show her photos of my grandkids etc and she was happy and chatty but her memory shoots about. At one stage she asked me what day it was, “ Wednesday “and then insisted that she should be in work that day so I gently changed the subject. I feel quite drained today, 3 days of travelling hasn’t helped but there is an emotional draining too, how you cope so well is amazing Pete.

Travelling is deceptively tiring despite it involving you sitting down most of the time. Emotional tiredness is very real too, maybe even more so. It’s lovely though that you got to share special time with your sister.

Thanks guys, off to the hospital soon and will probably be there with her most of the day…..
Just catching up on the thread Pete. Sorry to hear about this mate. Just to add to your burden.

By all means tell me to sod off if I'm interfering, but you really need to concentrate on Mrs P mate and stop spreading yourself around so much. There's only so much a body can take. 💙
