Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

It's frustration AT of not being able to do at pace what I used to find easy.
No idea why but reaction time in competitive matches is massively down on when I am messing about practicing.
In addition I just can't be doing with the gamesmanship that didn't used to bother me.
Maybe a couple of sessions with a sports psychologist would help?

I tried coaching Anj and I have no patience, especially with kids so thats a no no 😂.

I can play socially but ( without wanting to sound big headed ) my standard would be much better than other players at U3A so there's not much point.

I can however just train with elite players without playing competitively and that's fun provided that my elbow holds up.
That's good. At least you won't have to give up completely.

Not meant as a joke at all. I have been in teams that have used a psychologist and they are superb.
Honestly AT we only play for fun.

I'm sure at the very top level in ping pong they have sports psychologists but my level is many many rungs below that.

I'm genuinely flattered that you thought I might have been that good to justify it. Sadly I'm not and never have been !

Anyone can benefit from it jazzy. The visualisation training was best for me. Imagining the first ball coming in and you winning it and finding the correct pass under pressure. Let yourself breathe at your job done well. Then visualise the first ball coming in and you are beaten to it and a score comes from it. Deal with the negative thoughts and focus only on getting your head in the right place to win the next ball. It meant that I personally was always mentally prepared for whatever happened in a game and it does give you an edge over your opponent in that you have done all you can body and mind.

I have just watched the presser and he was a bit coy and a bit Dychey ,saying that I feel a bit happier with him I suppose because the deal is done now .
I do wish him all the best simply because it would be good for the whole club ,cynicism aside he does seem up for the job and was quite honest with his answers ,I enjoyed the fact he said the players have been told they have to look at themselves to improve .
I just hope he can conjure up a couple of signings to lift the crowd as they are the ones that have given the most in the times we have all endured over the last few years .COYB
I found it underwhelming and what disappoints me the most is his choice of backroom staff. I know he trusts them but apart from Leighton I wanted to see someone fresh and younger. I know many of us on here are of a similar age to Moyes and as a group are full of skills knowledge talent and experience (!), but there comes a time when you need enthusiasm, freshness and new thinking. Maybe this isn’t the time for that, but nevertheless it didn’t leave me buzzing for Wednesday night. Let’s see.

It is a real frustration when you find yourself involuntarily slowing down at stuff - I think it’s the Sergeant Pepper syndrome! Making peace with where you are and as you say enjoying doing what you are able to is something I definitely relate to - nothing as energetic as TT for me though😂

Morning all I hope everyone is well. A very exciting trip to the tip for us today following a good tidy out of the garage, and not much else planned apart from a bit of housework.
Had a mixed opticians visit on Saturday- came away with a lovely pair of specs and a commitment to trying varifocals for the very last time (pick them up Thursday) but also a referral to the Opthalmic Department at the hospital following a very dodgy visual field test. Clearly 2025 is the year I am going to malfunction- what was I saying before about the Sergeant Pepper effect 😂.
Have a lovely Tuesday 💙

I’m surprised that there are no “ Masters” competitions for you to enter if you wished, ie playing against older but once high standard players , even at a local level this can help retain your competitive edge. In my races I worry not about previous times or the fast youngsters running away from me but that V 70 just ahead is always going to be a target .!

I’m sure you’ll find the right level you want that keeps up your enjoyment of your sport . What @Armaghtoffee suggested is not so preposterous and is on the right lines. We’re never too old to learn things that can help improve, or as important retain, our love for a sport . I had a free 30 minute video consultation with a charming young German nutritionist yesterday to help me understand better the carbs/ electrolytes I need to be taking in for my marathon training . Looking and researching such things keeps my mind active ……and may just knock 1 minute off my marathon time 🙂. What I’m saying is mate YES you can justify looking at things that will help you enjoy your sport no matter what your level is 👍
