Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good morning all. Hope you are all well. I feel surprisingly OK given the amount of booze consumed. We had a lovely day yesterday. I honestly feel blessed that our adult children actually seem to enjoy spending time with us. I gave up on the cricket at about 2am. England are awful. My son has a theory that England never score more than Root + 150. I'm starting to think he's right.
Fred, have you ever watched Gary Numan Android in la la Land. Its a 2015 documentary about how he made the decision to move his family from UK to LA. Well worth a watch. He comes across as such a down to earth nice guy.
It's pouring here. Today is a day of turkey and ham sandwiches....and probably more booze.
I'll look that up. Not seen it.

No booze for me for at least 2/3 days. It'll take me that long to get over yesterday's session. I'll have sausage butty for brunch and do a curry sauce to go with the leftover turkey for tea. Apart from that I'm just going to curl up on the sofa and watch TV all day.

Bed. I'll save Yes for another night. Probably my favourite band in my teens. How did you guess?
we have very similar pop musical tastes.

If you like early Genesis its a reasonable guess that you like bands like Camel , Yes , Wishbone Ash , Jethro Tull etc.

Me , I'm a huge Wakeman and Mike Oldfield fan. Liked Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream too.

Similarly in the 80s I was into Numan , Depeche Mode, OMD etc

Loved them all. Saw Tangerine Dream live at Liverpool cathedral as a teenager. Mesmerising.

OMD are my favourite band ever. First saw them at Liverpool University Fresher's Ball maybe 1978/79. Best gig of theirs I ever went to was in Liverpool Museum 2014 or 2015- the new one on the waterfront ( Andy McCluskey is a Trustee of the museum). Only 500 tickets on each night. I splashed out on VIP tickets. OMD did a Q and A session for VIPs , also put on a free bar, mingled with the punters, and one of the original DJs from Eric's ( who was by then a very dapper pensioner) played a set . With records. It was so so good.

Just had some very sad news. My very good friend who recently had the heart attack sadly passed away on Christmas eve . My mate didn't want to call me earlier and ruin my day yesterday.

Hopefully the funeral will coincide with my planned trip up to Liverpool next month.
Oh so sorry Fred. Very sad to hear this. Sending hugs to you x

Mate. I know exactly how you feel. My brother died in May. He was 7 years older but was my second best mate after Cal. We were each others best man and he was the person I looked up to when I was young.

My eldest brother is really struggling at the moment. He's always been the most confident (and scary) person I've known but since the 2 unexpected deaths in our family this year he seems to have taken it worse than anybody, even me. I think it's survivors guilt. I feel that too so I'm not in a position to offer any advice.

But what I will say is that if you are ever feeling down or just want to get something off your chest, just come into this thread. The support you get is amazing but just the general camaraderie helps refocus your thinking and state of mind. It's been an absolute godsend to me the last few months.
Thanks @Barnfred 55 for those kind words. Even though my physical condition has continued to deteriorate, my mental health has improved with help from my family, and reading through this uplifting thread. I am feeling more positive as I enter my 70th year???

Sorry to hear that Fred, nice of your friend to thoughtfully delay the news and let you deal with yesterday, tragic nonetheless.

Good afternoon lovely friends.

I’m just waking up and catching up with some post. Unlike @Barnfred 55 I actually behaved last night, except for an afternoon beer, I didn’t have much to drink but I had plenty the previous days so I needed the break. Yesterday after coming back home we had a fun time opening gifts again with our daughter. Which it gets overwhelming for me given she has been receiving gifts for three days since her birthday is so close to Christmas. She is indeed a very fortunate girl, so we will be gathering the toys that she doesn’t play with any longer and donate those to the local woman’s shelter and that way kids less fortunate than her can have some toys too. Like @Gwladysover our house is looking a bit messy after Christmas but like @jazzy I already gathered a lot of the paper and cardboard to recycle but need to straighten out the house a bit more before I depart to my mum’s again. Like @anjelikaferrett kids, I really enjoy spending time with my parents, with all my family, Colombians we tend to be very family driven. So I’m going to spend the next few days at her place. My aunt and cousin are still there visiting because my mum’s birthday is coming up on the 28th. I don’t have to get back to work until Jan 3rd and nothing makes my mama happier than having her kids around so Im going to give her that joy and stay there with them the next few days.

Although it is nice that Everton won’t be ruining our Sunday, I was very much looking forward to them playing since I have missed the previous two matches because of my trip to CR. And while Im disappointed there is no game today, it almost seems fitting that we haven’t played a game since our good friend @messymascot left us and the next Everton game is the one against New Castle when he will be remembered.

Have a beautiful Sunday everyone! Xx

One of my fave bands as well Anj, went to see them at the Empire just over 2 years ago before covid kicked in and they were better than ever.
My youngest lad is only 22 but he's right into his eighties music and had been pestering me to go to a gig, he absolutely loved it despite being about 40 years younger than everyone else.
