Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

I was exactly the same mate. My older mates often said I looked like a negative too. My white tie was one of those really thin ones and made of leather. I also had a pair of white slip on leather shoes lol. One of my other mates said I looked like a gay Italian gangster. The early 80s weren't very PC as you can tell.

I turned 18 in February 1979, when Heart of Glass was number 1. My girlfriend at the time bought me the single for my birthday, I didn't have the heart to tell her that I already had the album. Neither of us were very well off as we were both still at school, and we worked part time at the local sweet shop which is where I met her. She was absolutely stunning looking and all my mates fancied her. They used to call her Wonderwoman because she wore these huge glasses that made her look like Linda Carter before she went into character. You'd have to be of a certain age to get that. :)

I remember for my 18th birthday we both went to The Fox, a pub in Speke. I'd played for the football team that ran from there for about 3 years and was well known in there. It was something like a Tuesday night and the place was empty, and because it was my birthday we were both dressed to the nines. The pub manager, an old guy called Ted, asked me what the occasion was. I told him it was my birthday so he offered me a birthday drink on the house. When he brought them over to our table he asked me which birthday it was I was celebrating. When I said 18th I swear his jaw hit the floor lol
Brilliant.

My only claim to fame story is that I was in the Casablanca club, downstairs one night, quite bevvied and ended up snogging the face off a not unattractive young man who was a friend of a friend. He told me he was a singer and had a record out soon. Yeah right I said. A few weeks later imagine my surprise when I saw him on Top of The Pops! Black - Wonderful Life.
I had my first proper snog in a disco when I was 13/14. I was in a group of boys and girls from school and one the girls suddenly sat on my lap and asked for a kiss. I'd heard about people using tongues when they kissed, so I decided to use mine to show how grown up I was.

She was a bit startled when I first started probing away, like a kid trying to remove the marshmallow from inside a walnut whip, but her curiosity made her continue.

I then saw her talking to her mate, who looked wide-eyed in response. Curiosity got the better of her mate and she came over for a snog, too, followed by another girl.

I went home feeling like Don Juan, but they probably went home thinking WTF was that?

Did you check to make sure you still had all your fillings afterwards? lol

The mood in here is so good this morning, it's a shame to spoil it with some more bad news I've had. My brother phoned earlier to see how I've been getting on over Christmas. His eldest granddaughter, who's only in her late 20s, was diagnosed with breast cancer around 2 years ago. However after they performed the mastectomy they found that her lymph nodes were heavily infected and further scans showed that the cancer had spread to other parts of her body, and she has been fighting this secondary cancer with varying levels of success ever since. He told me this morning that results of a recent scan they received just before Christmas shows that the cancer has now spread to her brain, and there is nothing more they can do for her. It's just going to be a matter of time and as that time get's nearer all they will be able to do is keep her comfortable and pain free. I think we always knew she was fighting an uphill battle and realistically this moment was inevitable, just a question of how soon, but it still comes as a shock all the same.

She has a daughter who I think is 5 now, who lives with her mum, my niece. For the past 6 months she herself has moved back in with a boyfriend in Liverpool and I guess is trying to get as much enjoyment as possible into what little time she has left. She's always been a bit of a wild child. I saw her at Cals funeral a couple of months ago and was able to give her a big hug, and that was nice.

Anyway, sorry to unburden myself on you again.

So sorry to hear that Fred, far too young that.

My God Fred , this has been a truly terrible year for you.

So sorry with this latest news.

As always we are here for you mate.

What a thread this is. Haven’t done anything productive today just watched rubbish TV and had this for tea.
Yummy! Seems like you had a very delicious tea! I just woke up and now I’m hungry ?
I’ve tried to get onboard with Olives.
But they just taste like aids to me.
I know people who are like proper genuinely into eating them. Like a cult they are.
I am part of the cult. I absolutely love olives. Spaniards have some great ones and the big Greek olives are the best.
No I am a woodworker ,I started sewing after I retired because the sewing machine is just like a table saw .
You are a very talented woodworker that’s for sure. I also sew for hobby, my grandmother taught me when I was girl in Colombia. It is a very practical skill to know, I actually need to catch up soon on some items that need minor sewing repairs.
Good morning all and sundry .A slight relax as only 6/7 pages to go through .
It is weird that we all have different likings in food ,there are few things I won't eat -Salted cod I think it was called here it is cod marinated in lye,who was it that said "hey that stuff you use to clear the drains ,you couldn't marinade that fish in it could you ?"
We have a "dessert" here which is rye bread soaked in cream and sugar on top ,lots of Finns don't like it but I love it .
We also have a pie which is rye bread dough rolled out and then headless Vendace (small salmon family fish) topped with strips of pork belly wrapped and cooked all day ,then out of the oven wrapped in newspaper and left for another day -served slightly warmed with butter spread on it .
I don't suppose I need to mention we have a lot of rye bread here !
Have a safe and happy day campers .
I agree on the cod, not too sure about the rye bread dessert though. However, for ages I didn’t use to like rye bread but the last couple of years I have gained a taste for it. More proof that our palates continues evolving even into old age, if we are only willing to let it happen.

Yo blue you certainly seem well adjusted to life just south of the North Pole.

Do you ski everywhere in winter and drink vodka instead of tea?

Must admit I'm partial to the odd bit of rye bread but all that ruffage must cause you to be going to the loo more often which is surely a problem when you are wearing sallopettes all the time lol .

Anyway I hope that you had a lovely Christmas, do you have bank Holiday today as well?

Enough food and drink for me and back to the gym to kick start my fitness regime.

@anjelikaferrett , hope you got some kip before watching the cricket.

Have a great day everyone.
Jazzy, have a great workout. I’m also supposed to be back at the gym today but I won’t be going at my usual time, nor at my usual gym since I’m staying at my mum’s town, so I feel a bit out of my usual routine and not looking as forward to it. But my body needs it so I’m going to get motivated and go for it once I’m done reading this thread.

Good morning everyone how are you all today, some sore heads or did you save yourself for new year lol
My head is feeling a bit rough as I decided to make german mulled wine and we sipped on that while watching still Christmas movies (a bad combination, the more we watched the more I drank ?)

It was all going so well when I went to bed. England's bowlers were well on top. Anderson was really getting to them. Just looked at the close of play score. FFS! England 2nd innings 31-4. Can't bat.
As an aside Ian Chappell was one of the commentary team. What a miserable git he is.
When you went to bed? And you have woken up and they still playing? Ffs How long does a match last??

Morning all, still cloudy here, seems ages since we saw the sun. Nothing planned for today, should have gone to son and family but they are isolating due to a positive test. He bought me Howard’s Way for Christmas so will probably settle down to watch that later. How’s the head @Barnfred 55 , better I hope. Have a good day everyone.
May sun shine your way soon dear @Gwladysover but watching Howard’s Way on a cloudy day seems like a great plan. I watched it with the hubby a few weeks ago and it was such a nice story about our Blues.

Lovely in a Martini. Dirty.
What are you trying to start now, Fred? lol
Not too bad today thanks Gwladys. Might have the full English for lunch that I put off from yesterday.
pic or we don’t believe you ;) xx

Love ya, Fred.

Good morning gang, off down to Merseyside this morning just going to take a quick test, wouldn't want to take the Larbert variant down it gives folk a compulsion to drink 70 shilling ale and eat scotch pies.
Not much snow about thankfully so should be a decent run down.
Hope everyone has recovered okay from their 2 day excesses and as far as the cricket goes, I've given up on them, apart from Joe and Jimmy we don't seem to have anyone playing that are anywhere near world class.
The LT variation sounds better than Delta so I would be up for it lol Have a good run down to Merseyside. X

I'm not too bad again today thanks Fred, had a relatively pain free few days for me, well minimum pain, it never goes completely. Just walked Daisy and chilling now.
May the relatively pain free few days continue! X

Good morning. Totally alcohol free day yesterday. My son however - who was watching the cricket with me - was heavily into a bottle of Grey Goose his girlfriend bought him for Christmas. I haven't heard any signs of life from him yet. My daughter, aged 24 went to her first football match yesterday. I've never been able to persuade her to come to Goodison. One of her presents to her boyfriend was to take him to a Middlesbrough match so they went yesterday. She loved it. No stress buying tickets, just turn up on the day and get them.

No plans for today. Still a bit damp and drizzly here, one of those grey days. I can feel another lazy day coming on (what again?) Me and the husband have decided to go to the beach tomorrow for a nice long walk along the seafront. Currently deciding between Redcar and Seaton Carew. This will obviously include fish and chips and an ice cream eaten outside in the teeth of a howling gale sweeping in off the North Sea.

@larbert toffee safe journey to Liverpool. I'm still trying to find a couple of days when we can go. Also depends on any new restrictions that may be imposed. @Terrarian Glad you are having an alright day and that you and Daisy have had a nice walk.

Enjoy folks x
Ange, enjoy your lazy day and your walk at the beach tomorrow, including the fish and chips and an ice cream. There is only a few days left on 2021 so make the most of it, because you know once 2022 comes your trainer will be having you getting ready for that cruise ?

Scotch pies mmm
Now I want a recipe ?

It looks absolutely gorgeous, from inside lol

I was 18 in 1980 and I remember when I went clubbing I used to sometimes wear black shirt and trousers, with a white tie and white canvas belt (remember them?). I thought I looked cool, but must have looked a right prat. I looked like a photo negative. lol
Do you happen to have a pic of the photo negative to share with us? ?

My kids have always loved olives from a very young age. Christmas Day they were both tucking into green olives stuffed with garlic.

They can both be fussy in different ways, so I could never quite get my head around them loving them so much. Must be their Mediterranean genes they get from their Maltese mum.
Same with my daughter, she loves olives but she can’t be bothered with tomatoes. Something is clearly wrong with her taste lol

I went home feeling like Don Juan, but they probably went home thinking WTF was that?
All this time I have been thinking Carlos21 is GOT’s real Don Juan ??

I have a confession ,I am a happily married man but I couldn't stop thinking about you @Sassy Colombian when I watched the film Encanto yesterday ,I had already told my wife of the people on this thread so she understood .
Awe, how sweet ? Now I am more eager to watch that movie, we almost watched last night but my daughter was still determined that we continue the Christmas theme. But it is on my list for this week.

Fred, This is definitely not the news your family deserved to hear this Christmas season. How terribly sad for her and for all of you that love her. I’m so sorry you are still having to deal with such bad news. This is no burden on us, we are here for moral support. We care about you. Xx

My word you must hope this year finishes soon Fred ,what can I say ? How you are coping is beyond me .Stay strong and keep telling us how you are please . So sad news .
Thanks guys. Your support is greatly appreciated as usual.

Just had a call from Cal's best friend in Liverpool and she's a really good laugh. There's another friend and together they were known as the three amigos. Whenever they got together they had an absolute hoot. The last proper party we had about 10 years ago I brought out the "orgasm shots" and these 2 had multiple. They went missing for about 10 minutes and when I went looking for them one of them was crashed out on the loo with her knickers still around her ankles and the other had fallen into the bath and couldn't get out because she was laughing so much. lol

Anyway, my mood is much improved after that phone call as you can probably tell.

Sassy that version of War and Peace must have taken awhile lol.

Had a nice gentle workout today . I will do the same for the rest of the week and back to full speed next week.

In fact the 90 minutes gardening that I did afterwards was harder!

Note to self ..... must check out Encanto
