Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

I know I'm really p*ssed when I start doing shots. Mostly happened in Brighton when I was at union conferences. 3am doing shots in a bar called Mollys. Best networking to be had! Vaguely remember being deep in conversation with the Deputy General Secretary about football. He was a Blackpool fan so we had Alan Ball in common. Also never missed or was late for a session at conference and even moved a motion about equality one morning, five minute speech in front of about 3000 delegates, the whole time wondering if I could get to the end without puking on the rostrum. That's recent past too - last conference pre-COVID. ? ?
The shot I went for most was tequila slammers. I can remember in Mexico the waitresses would walk round with shot belts, one draped from each shoulder that crossed to the opposite hip, just like the bullet belts Mexican bandits wore in westerns, but filled with shot glasses.

When you asked for a tequila slammer, they'd serve you, hit you over the head with a massive rubber mallet, then stand behind you, grab your head and give it a good shake. Mad.

How I agree with that. My Nan and Grandad were both born in 1900. They died in 1980 and 1988 respectively. When I think about it, I find it astonishing that I knew people who were born 121 years ago.
In 1968 I went with my friend to stay with her aunt in Lowestoft. We were sent to fetch milk from the dairy nearby which was run by a mother and daughter. The mother was 110 years old! She used to sit behind the counter chatting to the customers. On being introduced to us she got up and shook our hands. Mind boggling to think that I touched someone who was born in 1858!
