Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Sounds amazing. If Sassy reads this, you might end up having to post the recipe in her cooking thread.
You'd have to explain the Desperate Dan bit to her.
She might also think a Beano is a bit of a knees up.
And then you'd have to explain Knees up Mother Brown.
And then that an Irish man is really Mrs Brown......perhaps not involve Sassy in this one!

Schoolboy error.....just remembered Desperate Dan was in the Dandy not the Beano!

Well in my defence it was 50 years ago I read comics!

Good morning all, best sleep I've had in ages, I'm in work for noon and actually looking forward to it.
After retiring from full time stressful professional work in August I find myself working part time in a supermarket and absolutely loving it. I find it therapeutic, great exercise (I've lost a stone in 3 months) and my manager has been very understanding in my current situational with my parents, swapping my hours around to allow me to travel home through the week.
You folks have a nice day, take full advantage of the mild weather, we're having homemade Desperate Dan Steak pie for New Year Dinner tomorrow, can't wait.
You were probably knackered after the stress of your visit ro aged Ps and then driving LT.

I know when I used to drive from Liverpool to Plymouth every weekend when my dad was dying from cancer I was completely wiped out when I got home on the Sunday.

Happy NYE messketeers!

Hope you are all doing well?

Still can't get my head around the warm temps in Liverpool, doesn't feel at all Christmas like, but not really complaining, except when I stayed over at my cousin's and sweated like prince Andrew near the playground. Thought I had the Rona, bloody awful!

We've had an old school Christmas, with loads of board games and just family stuff, which has been brilliant and the kids have had a ball - particular highlight has been playing connect 4 shots, which involves bouncing coloured balls into the connect four board (alcohol optional!) - simple but bloody genius and great fun (also nearly causing a few Barneys between the generations - nanny and grandad Dogg had to be restrained at one point!).

Getting ready for a fairly quiet family Nye tonight, which I'm really looking forward to - long gone are my days of heading into town and clubbing/drinking the night away, before having to walk home back to huyton due to no fecking taxis, normally having given my socks away to whatever young damsel had succombed to my "charms" and then being wasted/knackered until I had to get back to work - not a scooby how I used to do all that! Used to be done in for weeks!

Have a belter everyone - I'll be rasing a glass to messy tonight. Much love.

Finally got to go to my local for some emergency rations (bread and milk). Really mild day so thought I'd carry on and say Hi to my mate who used to work with Cal. It's on the edge of the village but it's all uphill. Anyway, I got my dates wrong, she must have been doing the changeover yesterday. But I enjoyed the walk (about 2 miles there and back) and it got me out of the house. I only had a T shirt and a thin hoodie on, but I was sweating cobs by the time I got back. 14c it is here.

Once I've cooled down I'll make myself a bacon butty for lunch. ;)

@Sassy Colombian

Why do they carry suitcases in Colombia at New Year?

It may seem a little cumbersome, but it's one of many New Year traditions in Colombia to carry an empty suitcase around on 31 December.
The idea is that having an object so closely associated with travel with you is good luck, and will lead to 12 months of fulfilling adventures.

In Colombia, people carry empty suitcases in the hope of a new year filled with travel
It isn't the only tradition observed in Colombia at this time of year. Another is to fill your pockets with dry lentils as it's believed to bring future success. Lentils also crop up in the traditions of other countries. Eating them at New Year is considered good luck in Italy, a tradition also observed in some South American countries, such as Brazil.
Another Colombian tradition marked in other countries is the eating of a grape for each chime of midnight as 1 January arrives. This is a big part of the New Year celebrations in Spain, where it's called las doce uvas de la suerte (the twelve grapes of luck). Making a wish as you eat each grape can be part of the tradition too - just make sure you're well prepared beforehand with 12 grapes and 12 wishes!

Not really but Mrs J makes a lovely faux beef and mushroom pie!
My son's family are all pesky -tarians and I admire the conviction of them and you but I couldn't live without a nice piece of meat ,yes it is me not the wife typing now .I just love meat too much to give it up .All the best for the New Year .
You must send the recipe for faux mushrooms ,hehe .
