Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Afternoon all. Hope you're all having a good day as the year draws to an end.

Had a lovely, long walk in Lullingstone country park today. Currently having a cup of very strong Yorkshire tea and two M&S extremely chocolatey biscuits.

It's going to be a quiet night in tonight, have a few drinks and raise a glass to our dear departed friend Messy. I'll also be raising a glass to all you brilliant people who regularly contribute to this thread.

Cheers folks x ?

The Messy effect.

I'm not at all a prolific poster. I joined GOT in February 2009 and I've posted 773 messages in that time, but 267 posts have been in this thread. To put that into context, I posted less than 500 times in 12 and a half years, then 267 times in 3 and a half months, so I've gone from an average of roughly 3 posts per month to 76 pm.

That's all down to, initially, Messy and my admiration for him as a person, but it's also down to all the lovely people who continue to contribute to this thread. As per the recently updated title, this thread really does restore your faith in humanity.

Good morning all on this beautiful day ,I hope all are as well as can be and some are still sober .
The snow blower turned into a saga yesterday ,the only part I could find was in the UK but they wouldn't post to Finland I had rung a shop that I get lawnmower parts but they didn't have one and said the guy they get it from would probably buy it from Amazon ,I had looked and they didn't have it ,so I arranged with my daughter to send it to her and she would then post it on which would take ages .
Then the phone rang and it was this shop who said he had found a used one in the back,I asked how much ? He said 40€ ,I said "What I thought it was Christmas ?" he let me have it for 20€ ,Made my day as I am as tight as a ducks a**e.
Today I am mostly chopping wood .Have a great day all.
Glad to hear you got your blower saga resolved and even more than it was cheaper than what you had anticipated. I always love a good bargain too, chopping wood not so much lol

Morning all, have a good day. I'm downloading and installing games it's not very exciting ffs I hope you all have a nice evening and get extremely wasted. I don't drink as I've said so I'll crack the cordial lol
Enjoy your games and the cordial. Terrain.

Morning all, just stopped bucketing down here so that’s something. If it keeps fine we’ll probably go for a walk, used to do a lot of walking as we dog-sat for son’s dogs while they were at work. Since they moved away I have lacked motivation as there’s just not the pleasure in walking without a dog. Don‘t do resolutions as rule but I will make an exception this year…I will make an effort to do more walking.
That’s great it finally stopped raining for you all. Walking is definitely not my favorite form of exercise either, although I do like hiking. Part of the Colombian New Year’s celebration is coming up with resolutions but I have yet to settled on mine. Although I do have a few in mind. I hope you get to accomplish yours ?

Good morning all, best sleep I've had in ages, I'm in work for noon and actually looking forward to it.
After retiring from full time stressful professional work in August I find myself working part time in a supermarket and absolutely loving it. I find it therapeutic, great exercise (I've lost a stone in 3 months) and my manager has been very understanding in my current situational with my parents, swapping my hours around to allow me to travel home through the week.
You folks have a nice day, take full advantage of the mild weather, we're having homemade Desperate Dan Steak pie for New Year Dinner tomorrow, can't wait.
Nothing like a good night of sleep. I also slept very well last night being back at home in my own bed, plus having the hubby next to me always gives me great comfort.

Mmmmm, Dan Steak pie sounds very appealing. I may need to ask for the recipe so I can learn how to make it.

Sounds amazing. If Sassy reads this, you might end up having to post the recipe in her cooking thread.
Hahahaha, I have already asked for it just above this post :D

The nephew has covid now as well, probably not really a surprise when his partner has it and they've travelled up together and live together.
Sorry to hear about your nephew getting Covid too, hopefully their symptoms will be mild and will recover soon ??

Happy NYE messketeers!

Hope you are all doing well?

Still can't get my head around the warm temps in Liverpool, doesn't feel at all Christmas like, but not really complaining, except when I stayed over at my cousin's and sweated like prince Andrew near the playground. Thought I had the Rona, bloody awful!

We've had an old school Christmas, with loads of board games and just family stuff, which has been brilliant and the kids have had a ball - particular highlight has been playing connect 4 shots, which involves bouncing coloured balls into the connect four board (alcohol optional!) - simple but bloody genius and great fun (also nearly causing a few Barneys between the generations - nanny and grandad Dogg had to be restrained at one point!).

Getting ready for a fairly quiet family Nye tonight, which I'm really looking forward to - long gone are my days of heading into town and clubbing/drinking the night away, before having to walk home back to huyton due to no fecking taxis, normally having given my socks away to whatever young damsel had succombed to my "charms" and then being wasted/knackered until I had to get back to work - not a scooby how I used to do all that! Used to be done in for weeks!

Have a belter everyone - I'll be rasing a glass to messy tonight. Much love.
Nath, Here in Asheville the temperatures have also been too warm for December but I have noticed that has been pattern that has been happening for the past 5 years. I can’t complain either because I do enjoy the warmer weather but it is definitely weird when it feels like spring in December.

I’ll also be joining you on raising a glass on Karl’s honour. I wish he could be here with us having a New Year’s toast. But wherever he is at he is remembered and missed.

Not really but Mrs J makes a lovely faux beef and mushroom pie!
Recipe or I won’t be happy you ?

impressive! The Messy effect is real and felt by many here. I also agree that the compassion I have seen been shown on this thread by so many good people have restored a little bit of faith in humanity, which at times I have lost completely.

Happy new year to all, hope you all enjoy whatever it is you get up to tonight. Quiet one for me anyway, could conceivably be tucked up in bed as it comes in.

May the best day of your past, be the worst day of your future.
Nice quote! Same to you and those you love. X

@Sassy Colombian

Why do they carry suitcases in Colombia at New Year?

It may seem a little cumbersome, but it's one of many New Year traditions in Colombia to carry an empty suitcase around on 31 December.
The idea is that having an object so closely associated with travel with you is good luck, and will lead to 12 months of fulfilling adventures.

In Colombia, people carry empty suitcases in the hope of a new year filled with travel
It isn't the only tradition observed in Colombia at this time of year. Another is to fill your pockets with dry lentils as it's believed to bring future success. Lentils also crop up in the traditions of other countries. Eating them at New Year is considered good luck in Italy, a tradition also observed in some South American countries, such as Brazil.
Another Colombian tradition marked in other countries is the eating of a grape for each chime of midnight as 1 January arrives. This is a big part of the New Year celebrations in Spain, where it's called las doce uvas de la suerte (the twelve grapes of luck). Making a wish as you eat each grape can be part of the tradition too - just make sure you're well prepared beforehand with 12 grapes and 12 wishes!
Hahahaha this is one of many Colombian weird New Year’s traditions, Jazzy. I can’t remember the reasoning behind it but if you really want to fulfill your traveling dreams going around with a suitcase is not enough but at midnight one must have a suitcase and ride a broom around the neighborhood, ya know Harry Potter’s style lol

Tbh, with our family we don’t do the lentil but if we definitely have done the suitcase, the 12 grapes at midnight is a must (I already have ours ready for tonight). In the past we have also wore yellow underwear inside out (my mum is big on this tradition of wearing yellow knickers on New Year’s Eve). It is also a tradition to give your house a thorough clean on the final day of the year to make sure that all those bad energies are a thing of the past so that’s what Im trying to do right now, I always begin the new year with a clean house. So many different traditions for our culture during this day but like I mentioned before for Colombians New Year is definitely seeing as a time for renewal.

Happy New Year’s Eve, Blues. Can’t believe today is the final day of 2021 but I welcomed it as it has been a tough year with all the lost of life and the crazy things that Covid kept throwing our way. In a difficult year, I’ve been grateful for all of your extraordinary friendship…. thank you. Cheers to new beginnings and a better 2022 for everyone. Xx
