Very well put anj.I saw that he is to be a non executive director. I'm still not entirely sure what their function is. Always seem a bit like ornaments. Nice to have but useless. Anyway I'm hoping he'll use his role to act as a critical friend to the board. Man of the people type of thing ( just for you Jazzy, Lord Denning's, if I remember rightly, man on the Clapham Omnibus.) Say it how it is. Great player. Don't really think he got the credit he deserved outside Goodison. Lead the line brilliantly.
I've got a soft spot for Denise because back in the day when she used to be in education I happened to be her Bank Manager. I thought she was absolutely brilliant in her role with EITC. She'd come on a long way since I used to deal with her and, whilst I did have a question mark over her ability to handle the CEO role, I wasn't totally against it either. A person can do a lot of development in 15 years. But I don't think she's strong enough to stand up to either Bill or Mosh.No , you're probably right Fred I'm just made up for him.
Actually you are right the time for sentimentality at Goodison should have been over years ago.
BTW I bet you're wrong about the first part of your post . I always thought that I was better qualified and would have done a far better job than Elstone. I'm sure the same applies to you.
Don't get me started on Denise
I think we are probably aligned in our view of her. Last met her about 10 years ago so yes you may well be right about the development point.I've got a soft spot for Denise because back in the day when she used to be in education I happened to be her Bank Manager. EDIT - It must have been Master of the Rolls that did the presentations. I qualified in late 1982 , the year he retired. So he was probably off playing golf - perhaps with Sharpy!Very well put anj.
God Lord Denning . He was Lord Chancellor at the the time I qualified and in just about every year the the LC presents the Practicing Certificates.
Just my luck he was otherwise engaged that year and I got a photo of me and some duffer who was head of the Law Society instead of me and Denning. Gutted !
I would have been too. I did a law degree part time at Liverpool Polytechnic (as was, now John Moores University) in my mid 20's. Mostly to prove to myself that I could after dropping out of a chemistry degree at Liverpool Uni straight after school. Loved the science, was crap at maths and you really need maths. Poor advice from school but in those days it was all about getting girls into science so if you showed any ability for science that was the route you were herded into.Very well put anj.

It was a remarkable bit of legal work by Dodd's team to keep the case in Liverpool - it was inconceivable that a Liverpool jury would ever convict him , whatever the evidence.I would have been too. I loved Denning's iudgments. Always a good read. You'll like this too. The Ken Dodd tax trial took place during my time at the Poly. The lecturers were absolutely wetting themselves with excitement about being able to see George Carmen QC in the flesh and would go to watch at any opportunity they had. However all they came back with was stories of Ken Dodd in the witness box. He was amazing said one. Performance of his life said another. And another - none of it was relevant but the jury loved it. George seemed to have been overshadowed by Doddy!
Shamelessly underused by the Scottish National team.I saw that he is to be a non executive director. I'm still not entirely sure what their function is. Always seem a bit like ornaments. I've no idea how they did it but it was a stroke of genius. It was a remarkable bit of legal work by Dodd's team to keep the case in Liverpool - it was inconceivable that a Liverpool jury would ever convict him , whatever the evidence.
I remember one day popping into the Solicitors room in QE II stupidly unaware that Ken and his crew had taken it over for themselves. I got a stern " who are you " from KD and didn't have the balls to reply "who are you " and just slunk out.
My eldest sister used to be one of the clerks of the court at the QEII. I had many barristers and also a couple of judges on my clients base and they were all in awe of my sister. I was gobsmacked because at home she was, and still is the most unorganised person ever. She got either an OBE or MBE when she retired and I still don't know what she got it for. Neither does she lol.It was a remarkable bit of legal work by Dodd's team to keep the case in Liverpool - it was inconceivable that a Liverpool jury would ever convict him , whatever the evidence.
