Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good afternoon everybody. Hope you are all OK. The news about Ukraine is very scary and extremely worrying. Putin is an absolute madman. He wants the Soviet Union back. Did you see the clip of him totally humiliating one of his Ministers the other day. Awful. I'm not liking a lot of the 21st Century so far. I was thinking of asking for my pay in cash this month so I've got some assets! ? ?

It's still quite windy here and absolutely freezing. However it is getting so much lighter - morning and evening and the birds have started singing in the mornings. It's nice to hear them. Although my favourite birds are the family of crows who live on top of the barn that forms part of the boundary of our garden. There's about 15 of them. Very clever, have trashed every bird feeder I have ever put out so they can get the food and leave none for the little birds. They wait for us now every day to put stuff out for them - all lined up along the fence.

I'm also aware of another very concerning situation that maybe lining up. We get relegated and the RS win the League. Did you see Klopp "celebrating" last night. He's an awful human being. and I hate the way the interviewers pander to him "What about Sadio and Mo" No other players in any other team get addressed by the media by first names (unless lIke Allan and Fred, they only have one name!) Ugh.

Anyway back to work I go. have a lovely afternoon all

No signs other than indignation from the Finnish prime minister yet ,we are not very far 400 km from St Petersburg .
I don't think at this moment the "nutter " has eyes on us but who knows .
I hope that you are right blue.
If would not surprise me if this invasion is unchallenged that Putin will continue to try to reconstitute the Soviet Union by attempting to annexe the Baltic states.
This whole thing has the potential to completely spiral out of control very quickly.
Europe's reliance on Russian energy and the UKs acceptance of dirty Russian money is a massive own goal.and weak point.
No course of action that we take now is without risk but we have to ultimately stand up to Putin.

The reporting on the Ukraine on CNN is absolutely staggering and scary in equal measure.
They have reporters on the ground in Ukraine reporting on the invasion and upon actual engagements.
Their military and political analysis upon Putins true intentions is impressive in its detail but incredibly worrying.
One very senior politician on the US defence committee said the greatest worry was a massive cyber attack upon Ukraines gas and electricity utilities that would bleed into Poland a NATO member and thereby invoke Art. 5 and lead to a full blow war.
Jeez.

Out of respect to Karl and the boys from over the water ,I will be posting about this conflict elsewhere .
Fair enough. I think expressing concern and best wishes to the poor people of Ukraine is one thing. Offering opinions is best left to the current affairs forum.

I ventured in there yesterday (not to the Ukraine thread but a different one) and instantly regretted it. My head isn't ready for intense political debate yet ?

I agree ,it is up to each and everyone of us to choose

Naturally I respect your position and opinion blue but my view of this thread , quite possibly wrong , was that it was a virtual coffee shop where friends would meet and discuss things relevant to themselves.
Out of respect to you my friend I won't post my views on the conflict .
I mentioned the other day about comments on the green isle and out of respect and fair play to them I thought it is the right thing ,yes I agree the thing that I love about this thread is the ability to voice our opinions but I thnink this will get much deeper than that soon .

I think where Blue is coming from Jazz is that when you get on to some subjects, especially those that involve politics or religion and such matters, then things can quickly spiral. But you're also quite right in that this has become almost like a virtual coffee shop where anything goes, within reason. :)

It's a question of finding the balance so things don't escalate. There is of course a current affairs forum for such discussions, but if you ever go in there you'll find that frequently, just like in the Everton forum, things can get quite heated.

I am always careful with all but very close friends not to discuss politics and religion.
However I'm not sure that there was anything I mine our other comments on the Ukrainian / Russian conflict that anyone would have found very controversial or taken great exception to.
However I am extremely mindful of the original purpose of the thread and rest assured I won't post anything of a political nature in the future.

Thank you Fred

Whoa ,I never intended this for you at all .
It is my own decision because I commented on other posts earlier in the week about the Irish conflict ,that alone is my reason to deflect from this thread without having double standards .
I and I am sure many others enjoy your postings on here and I am sorry if you thought my comment was directed at any particular person as it was not ,especially not you or any of the regulars here .

Fellow Mascoteers, let’s not stress ourselves too much about what we chat about. Karl brought us all here and he gifted us the best thread on the site. Kind intelligent people frequent here (and I just enjoy hanging onto your coat tails ?).

From brown knickers to travel advice, whips to culinary tips, book reviews to saucy pics. It’s all here in our virtual coffee shop and long may she stay open for business.
