Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good afternoon all. It is a proper spring day here. Thick frost this morning but the sun has come out and it's lovely.

I think it's awesome that you have a penpal @Gwladysover . Letter writing is becoming a lost art. Cue another lesson from the nuns about writing letters. Black ink on white or cream paper is the only acceptable way. No coloured paper or flowery decorations and blue ink wasn't great either. something must have stuck because I only ever use black pens! ? ?

As others have alluded to, the situation in Ukraine is affecting us all. I'm glad you've mentioned it because I thought it was just me and I was being over dramatic. I am genuinely worried that nuclear weapons will be deployed because Putin is so unhinged. As @Barnfred 55 said, being around in the 1980s didn't seem to be as concerning, although I am still emotionally scarred by a film called Threads that I watched around that time about the after effects of a nuclear strike. It was terrifying.

@Sassy Colombian Hope the new job is going well. I'm sure you've already impressed them!

Gym tonight. Hope you all have a great day x
I always thought the insistence on black ink was a Government thing anje , always struck me as odd.

I completely share your sense of foreboding about the future and we are totally impotent .

I've now got to the stage where I try not to listen to the totality of the news.

Very very scary times.

We used to have letter writing lessons too. White or cream paper, unlined - lined paper was considered common, how I ever got into that school is a mystery. Before anyone points it out Yes I know I got in through the door?.
I was quite affected by Threads too, having two very young children at the time I really worried for their future. I was a member of CND for years. Although I knew the weapons were still there I thought the threat of their use had all but disappeared sadly seems my optimism was misplaced.
Hope the gym session goes well.

We all love you too, Sass. Best of luck tomorrow, not that you will need it.
Good luck tomorrow Sassy
Will say a prayer that all goes well on your first day.
Good luck @Sassy Colombian ,knock 'em dead .
Good luck. You'll smash it x

Good morning everyone.

Very misty start here today but Carol says that it's going to be a bright sunny day and she's always right.

As @Armaghtoffee has referenced this terrible war is taking a toll on everyone and I wake up fearful and concerned every day.

Mrs J off to the Charity shop today and I will do my usual gym visit and then spend the day in the garden.

Hope y'all have a lovely day and @Sassy Colombian I hope that your first day in your new job is everything that you hoped it would be.

Best of luck today Sass. Not that you'll need it.

If you needed any confirmation that you're the right person for the job then you only need to luck at ATs GIF post above. ;)

Edit. Look lol lol

Morning everyone,

Still very busy with work this week, but should ease up next week, allowing me to post a bit more.

Just popped in to say hello, hope you all have a good day, and to wish @Sassy Colombian the very best of luck in her new job xxx

Good evening friends. Sorry for the multiquoting but I would be adding two pages to this thread if I were to thanks each of your postings. I really appreciate all of your posts, encouraging words, and GIFs. I'm still at the office just finishing my first afternoon at my new job. Just like @Spadge Vernacular predicted they took it super easy on me today and I have been spending all afternoon setting up my office, my computers, and going over documents that HR sent me regarding my new benefits. My new supervisor told me she is super excited about joining her team and that she really wants me to enjoy my new position. I was also told that starting in April I'm going to be allowed to work one day per week (most likely Fridays) remotely. So that would be a really nice perk. My office also has a big window so I'm loving it as I really enjoy natural light. So things have been going very good today. Except for what's happening in Ukraine. Like you all, I am feeling very concerned about the situation for the people of Ukraine and things getting out of control if Putin feels cornered and feels that he has nothing to lose and goes crazy with the nukes, but hopefully this will not happen but it is certainly worrying. This situation and the suffering of Ukrainians have really saddened my heart, I've cried a lot the past few days I just still don't understand how someone can do so much damage to a population and feel nothing about murdering innocent people. I'm praying this situation resolves soon for the good of the people of Ukraine, Russia and the world.

Good to hear you got off to a smooth start, missus. :)

That other pr*ck will get his comeuppance. He has absolutely goosed Russia for a long time to come. Let's just hope for our Ukrainian brothers and sisters that it is sooner rather than later. x

In the news they are saying a vote in Finland today to see if we join NATO ,something I think the government has tried to aviod and that Putin has gone to Siberia underground with his family to be away from any nuclear fall out .Dire times indeed .
The Finnish shops are taking all Russian products off their shelves as I type .
I'd be careful with that NATO vote. The madman might use it as a justification for another "military operation".

That's the problem now he holds a gun to Europe's head.

We've seen this film before though albeit in black.and white from 1930/40s.
