Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

As with everything my daughter does, I'm getting regular updates on the babysitting. (polar opposite to my son who gives away as little information as possible!) Latest news, dogs fed, kids had their tea, the baby sh*tt all up her back so had to have a bath. daughter has ordered a Domino's pizza for herself. And the latest update - her friend her husband have a bearded dragon called Dodger who lives in the bedroom she will be sleeping in. I don't think my comment "watch it doesn't sneak out during the night and eat you" went down well! ? ?

Those blobs you can see on the beach are seals sunbathing. There must have been more than 50.
That is amazing.

Port Oriel isn’t too far from me and guaranteed to see seals when the fishing boats are in. When working in Belfast I love a walk down past the SSE arena to seal spot. They are very therapeutic animals to watch, especially when peeping out of the water to get a good look at you.

How would you ever close your eyes with that lizard in the room!! I just don’t get the pet status.

This is Dodger. Dodger's food, live mealworms, are also in the bedroom. Daughter is a nervous wreck. Kids, no issue, dogs fine. sharing a room with a bunch of mealworms and a lizard have finished her off.

Nah no chance, I would change a hundred dirty nappies up the back before I’d share a room with that Kopite.

A couple of years ago we went to the beach and my daughter persuaded us to adopt not just a hermit crab but 3 of them so they could keep each other company. Within a week one of them died, the other two have been with us for almost two years and I have to honest hope that if there is such a thing as reincarnation I hope I never come back to life as a hermit crab as those creatures live a miserable boring life, at least the so called pet ones. We have tried to give them a good life but they spent 90% of the time sleeping or buried. Here is a pic of one of them.

WTF?

How do you adopt a crab? Do you have a sandpit or something?

Tbh we purchased them but in my mind it was an adoption. It really is a horrible business, at some US beach stores they sell them as pets. They keep them in cages all crowded together, that’s why we got 3, we thought we could give them a better life. They live in a fish tank. We thought about releasing them but they would just die, so they are part of the family. The boring part of the family;)

Did you know meal worms are the biggest enemy for bee keepers ? They get in the hive and eat all the eggs .

they might be miserable because they are waiting for food to walk past .I kept bee eaters when I used to breed birds and they are very hard to keep alive because they only eats insects that are fon the wing ,no point in ants eggs in a bowl .What I am saying they are programmed to eat in a certain way .
