Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

I love fish and sardines too with lots of lime juice and onion. Growing up in Colombia my dad used to love it and we had it often with crackers. My husband is not big on sardines so I don’t eat it s often as growing up.

Knock yourself out Sas. Mackerel also goes by tons of other names, Gar Fish and some sort of Chubb for starters, and is generally an Atlantic based fish. So I reckon Merica has it, just calls it sommet different.

If you ever go to Portugal, all the beach bars and restaurants on the Algarve do grilled sardines- the whole fish pretty much straight out of the sea. Absolutely gorgeous. Mr F isn't into fish at all. He hates bones so the thought that he might find one puts him off. Weirdo! I would say that given the choice I would always pick fish over meat.

I just tried to search for some unsuccessfully unless I want can mackerel, but I’m at the beach so when I go to the seafood market I’m going to inquire about it.

Omg my husband is another weirdo, he doesn’t like to eat fish with bones either. I’m Colombia I grew up eating the whole fish so one has to learn to deal with bones.

I like my fish filleted tbf. Love the taste of kippers but the bones put me off and don't go anywhere near whitebait. Love smoked fish and almost all seafood apart from oysters. Allergic to crayfish sadly so lobster is off the menu these days.

We had our honeymoon in the Algarve in Portugal. We were sitting in a lovely beachside bar one lunchtime and I suggested we got sardines. He agreed. I think he was expecting something like the ones you get in a tin. He nearly died when he was presented with 6 whole fish staring up at him from his plate!

Some of my favourite fish have lots of bones and are almost given away in the shops but they have so much more taste .I watched a Gordon Ramsey clip on You Tube and he was raving about pollock -it tastes of nothing ,just like cod .We have a smoker made from a water cylinder ( not copper ,as that would kill you ) made from stainless steel and I will be smoking rainbow trout on Sunday .Photos to follow .

Nice, I look forward to your pics. How big is your smoker? I absolutely love rainbow trout, it is delicious whether smoked or not.

Algarve is the best for fresh fish.

Lobster with pliers in both hands is a challenge
