That's taking the pretty bizarre view that Coady is the only centre half in the entire world that we could possibly sign though? There is the fairly obvious alternative option of signing somebody better than both Keane and Coady.

There is of course, but looking at it objectively what area of our team do we need to proritise investment?

You'd have to think Braithwaite will be back as our starting centre back either in the summer or more likely the one after so are we going to dump another load of cash on another?

Imho we need a couple of forwards, a winger, an attacking midfielder and another left back, before thinking about a CB so I would rather we played Coady and took the option on him than risk an injury to Tarkowski and be left in a really bad position. Not really a hot take..

Same principle applies for me, we should always be aware of players in all positions who would be available and willing to come here. It shouldn't be any more difficult to sign someone else than it is to keep Coady. I have no idea what they'll do obviously, and much of it will no doubt depend on which league we're in, I was just commenting on the idea that we should sign Coady specifically - even if the manager doesn't really fancy him - just in case something unexpected happens to Tarkowski. Aside from the fact I would imagine he wouldn't really want to come if that was the case, it would just seem a bizarre thing to do.

You don't get much for 4.5 million these days though so it is a good deal for someone with experience but not totally past it yet. You see what happens to them lot when VVD goes out of the side so I would plan for the worst as it usually happens to us. If we can find someone better for cheaper or the same price then fair enough, I just don't see that happening.

If Coady sits on the bench for the rest of the games then I doubt he will sign, but if I were manager I would have played Coady more now and then in the summer given Keane a fair crack at playing, if he starts fair enough and at the end of that season we could probably offload Coady for a similar value. That seems a bit more forward thinking to me at least.

We couldn't.

Gnonto, Caicedo, Livramento, Mitoma, Gelhardt, Branthwaite all been signed by teams down the bottom for around 4.5 million.

I think by the end of the season the stats will show we can off load Mina’s wages, and Holgate.
If we get more than £4m for Holgate we’d be better keeping Coady on that price. Gives Branthwaite time to adapt with Keane, Tarkowski and Coady as the 4 CBs. Depending on the opposition and injuries.
If we could sell Godfrey and pick up a real LB we’d be settled for next season if we stay up.

Keane the man seems an affable honest bloke.
Unfortunately I utterly despise seeing this second rate footballer in an Everton shirt.
Easily the worst regular CB I’ve see at Everton.
More flaws than the Empire State Building.

Branthwaite should’ve been given a chance this season instead of wasting time & effort on Coady. He’s also better than Keane.
