2019/20 Michael Keane

I just hope that his highly critised performance for England won't affect his game for Everton.
Actually I might be a positive thing for Everton (though rough for the lad himself).Opposition teams will see that and want to force another error out of him with high pressing which means gaps up the pitch and opportunities to counter for the rest of the team

At fault for the first goal.
Rice dropped a clanger for the second.
Maguire slipped up as well for the third.

Pearce calling for Keane (and a few others) to be given a rest and for a younger player to be brought on at half time.

Keane will get emptied out for a few reasons;
1. He isn’t good enoigh
2. Isn’t a media darling
3. Plays for Everton

I’m fine with it all and would prefer he wasn’t playing for England. Keane has the look of a scapegoat about him.

It’ll be interesting to see who starts ahead of him as, at the moment, centre back is a limited talent pool. Stones is a better player on the deck but can’t defend any better. I look forward to he and Maguire pairing up at the back

Gomez will get the nod alongside Maguire. Tarkowski and Dunk both playing well for their clubs too - stronger defensively in my opinion too. Stones is the better ball playing CB, but he's not decisive enough and him and Maguire as a partnership will always make mistakes.

Maguire is hyped up - he played really well in a very strong system last year in the World Cup, but he's not individually LOADS better than Keane. I think you're right
1. He isn't good enough yet but is getting there. I like how Southgate is challenging him to play better in big games.
2. Yeah - it's so amazing this is still happening. I don't mean to be nasty..or I do..but Barkley is NOT playing any better than he did at Everton, and he's suddenly getting picked more. I think Hudson - Odoi and the other Chelsea lad, even Maddison are better now.
3. Yeah. Yeah Yeah

The Kosovo game revealed that Keane does not quite have the authority and confidence of a top CB. Needs to look at his errors and pay attention to correcting them, has got to learn.

re barkley, I actually think he's been consistently decent for England recently

Hudson odoi is a winger, mount has played 1 year in the championship ( does look good though )

Keane will not be praised when England play well but will be criticised when England play badly.

As posted above, he is the scapegoat... plenty of players underperformed last night and Kevin Kilbane was particularly critical of midfield but Keane takes the wrap for an error in the first minute although England then scored five.

I accept all the comments above but what was Barkley doing making that pass to Keane in the first minute of the game. We know, as does the England set-up, that Keane will make mistakes , everyone knew Kosovo were going to press high up the field and Barkley puts his own centre half under pressure on his first touch.
I may well be over critical of Barkley and, as I played in defence, may be easy on Keane but I thought it was a terrible pass to give a centre half in the first minute.
That said, I hope England don't pick him again for a while, let him get used to playing beside Mina in the Everton team, that is where he needs to preform at his best.

They did pick that up at half time. They showed that Barkley had no one near him and could have easily took the ball, turned and carried the ball forward.
I'm sure Stones will take his place once fit. He's a better player and keeps Keane from being made a scapegoat but end of the day Keane is a liability waiting to happen in my opinion.

Neither of them are good enough on the ball for this England side.

Keane made a crap decision yesterday, after being given a crap pass to deal with from Barkley.

But he's generally good on the ball. And of the four 'first choice' England CBs (Maguire, Stones, Gomez, Keane) he's probably the worst on the ball, even though he's quite good. Tarkowski/Dunk would make many more errors playing out from the back, though with Potter in at Brighton, Dunk may improve in that respect.

Rice gave an even worse pass away for the second, under no pressure, and Henderson (won't get mentioned) made the worst attempted header/block you'll ever see, the big dope.

Then Maguire completely turns into Phil Jones for the penalty.

The mistakes for the second and third goals were much worse than Keane's.
