Absolute carthorse when the ball is played behind him. He looks like a horse that can't clear the final hurdle. If the game is in front of him he can be decent when his confidence is up. But it's on the floor right now.

I just hope he doesn't read all the pointless abuse he gets.

Ive read he suffers from MH problems. If so the lad deserves support from us, if we weren't so short in cb cover I'm sure he'd be left out for a bit to regain his confidence

I agree with your sentiments. I don’t rate him as a player, haven’t done since about four games in to his tenure here, but some of the vitriol is unwarranted.

I think the best thing for him would be a return to Burnley, back to a style of play that suits his game, one where less is asked of him as they play two deep banks of four which ensures his lack of mobility doesn’t get exposed as much. In a team that pushes up, leaving space in behind, he is ripe for being picked apart.

Should he then be playing professional soccer?

I still can't believe he went back to Pickford in the 92nd minute when ONE Arsenal man was closing him down.

Agree. There are times to pass the ball backwards, we all know that, but unless you are under pressure what are you asking the receiver to do with the ball that you can’t? Smacks of player low on confidence and passing on responsibility.

His chances of playing for England again look slim, he can’t currently be considered first choice here never mind be seen as good enough by a largely southern based media who dominate any England coverage. Stones suffers in the same way especially when a massively over rated Maguire is seen as the lynchpin by the same journos.

Its a position where we know we need to strengthen, looks on current form like he’ll be an early casualty of the new regime. I just don’t see a place for him in the team if we are to progress to where we aspire. I hope I’m wrong but he offers little to suggest he can be a leader at the back or dominate any fluid opposing forward line. Is slow, lacks aggression in both penalty areas and is uncomfortable on the ball. May be a decent bloke and a genuinely nice guy, but a progressive ball playing centre back or a leader he most certainly isn’t. File under a long list of under performing and underwhelming signings in our recent recruitment policy.

I agree the lad could do with a short break out of the firing line, but yerry and holgate haven’t been playing in the basket case formation as long as he has. A solid defensive shape and midfield that gets back into shape, will help him.

He needs to starting taking responsibility now and stepping up.

He is a very limited player who has very good defensive abilities but his lack of confidence is his downfall.

The club should have a sports phy working with him otherwise we have chucked £30m up the wall.
