Not blaming Keane for our inability to score? That’s good of you. Gets bullied? Pish.

Look, we all want to see better football than this season. Get some better quality ball players in midfield/wide midfield and that’ll make a massive difference.

If we get better at keeping the ball in the other team’s half then, yes, the defence moves up the pitch and players like Keane and Mina are vulnerable to balls down the channel and space in behind them. Are you seriously trying to tell me there are no slow defenders playing for teams that try to play with the ball in the other teams half?

What really matters is, as a team, how quickly you win the ball back or get back into defensive position behind the ball when you lose it. As a team we’ve been terrible at that. There needs to be balance otherwise playing a high line with no pressure on the ball is asking for trouble, particularly with slow defenders. I agree with you there.

The fact of the matter is for me personally we bought keane under koeman and he tried to play in the oppositions half and keane looked terrible. Then allerdyce came in and played the low block and he looked good, then silva came in and wanted to play higher up the pitch again and keane (apart from a few months where zouma did all the heavy lifting at the end of silvas first season) looke terrible again and now ancelotti has came in and went back to the low block and now the lad looks good again.

Now I dont think it takes a data analyst to figure out that keane can't play higher up the pitch. Hes been here for 4 seasons now and we all know his strengths and weakness.

Thats not to say he can't be a useful member of the squad. I imagine he'd play most matches away from home against the top sides but he's not who you want as a permanent starter.

Again, you can say this about every player we have, all of them at some point have looked awful this season.
Is that the way we play? If so none of them suit it, so Carlo needs to find a way to use the squad, but right now we haven't got a single player who is any more then a squad player

You can say that about every player we have in every position, we could get 2 great CBs in and still come 8th if we cant score. CB is one spot we dont have to worry about
Our most urgent need is to improve our goal scoring, however that is done.
Defence is the least of our worries bar Right Back.
In the list of my priorities, CB is way down behind RB, RW, creative CM, backup forward, backup keeper.

Dubious logic. I think you might be overlooking the shambles that has been the rest of the team during that period.

It’s about balance and we haven’t had any. When we attack and lose the ball our midfielders are slow at covering ground, getting back behind the ball and getting into shape. We’re wide open, easy to play through and counter attack. That’s a recipe for disaster regardless of who is playing in defence.

Carlo talked about wanting to play better balance/football next season and mentioned in his programme notes about wanting to sign quality wide players, a striker (with Kean going presumably) and a right back. Funny how Carlo isn’t prioritising a centre back or identifying that Keane is a major impediment to us playing more attacking football. He’s already said many times it’s about getting the right balance.

Re data analysts, I think Everton employ some. That being the case, there’s two possibilities: 1) they are incompetent and missing what a layperson posting on a forum is seeing or 2) you’re talking pish.

For me he lacks that 'guvnor' attitude to lead the back 4. But I like the way he's steadied himself, improved gradually and chips in with a goal here and there.

The constant manager change is what undermines player development.

Definitely one to keep, much bigger holes in midfield, wide and CF.

At last a sensible pragmatic fan. I think that this approach to next season is pretty close to what Carlo would like to achieve. I could easily forsee him wanting to play further up the pitch and more expensively against the likes of Palace , Norwich etc and sitting deeper against the bigger teams. To do this you obviously need a range of players. Keane is a very good defender but lacks pace , particularly one on one.

Doesn't take an expert to see that if he gets isolated on the back foot with any attacker with pace he going to come up short. Yes he's worth keeping in the squad,as mentioned there will be plenty of games when we will need to defend deep and hopefully decent cup runs. He wouldn't get in the squad of any of the top four and it's just good financial management that if a good offer came in to use the money in other areas.

Good player for certain games, where we are deep and he can just plonk himself in the box and head the ball away, absolutely useless in other games where the ball is played over the top and he is trying to turn and run, he gets beat by the ball over the top literally every time its played.

Seen someone say he hasn't made a mistake since spurs or whatever, a ball was played over the top the other day he missed his header, fell on his arse and big yerald had to come and bail him out.

Certainly not a priority as other positions like RB, at, wingers and cm BUT if we could shift Keane/holgate and get a top class cb to partner mina/Godfrey I think we should be looking into it.

Oh, he also needs mina to hold his hand through games as well which is weird as he's our most "senior" cb. Mina is solid with whoever he partners

I still think overall this season he’s been our best player. Godfrey has also been very good, but Keane has put in a lot of standout performances.

Not sure he’s an issue that needs to be addressed, if anything we are probably strongest at CB when Mina is available. Holgate is probably the weak link, but not the worst back up to the other 3 so long as we play 2 centre backs. If he’s insistent on playing 3, then we could do with another as Mina is injured too often.

He's exactly the sort of player that Everton never seem to be able to move on from, and then we wonder why the team never gets anywhere or achieves anything.

Better to just resign yourself to the fact that he'll be starting for years to come.
Good

Oh, so its everyone else's fault that he looked like he's never seen a football before in his life when we've played a higher defensive line or the fact that simple balls over the top seem to make him fall to bits everytime or the fact that the lad can't sense danger if it jumped onto his face and started making sweet love to his nostril?

He's obviously the reincarnation of Beckenbauer I just never noticed before because everyone else has been letting him down, silly me.

If we play a higher defensive line next season with keane he'll end up looking like marv going through macauley culkins house in home alone. Just like he's done every time we've played him in a higher defensive line. The lads good in the low block thats why he looked boss at Burnley.

As far as the data analysts at everton go, well they thought it was a good idea to spend £28m on iwobi. So ill take my opinion over their's any day of the week.
