2020/21 Michael Keane

....I’ve been consistent in my criticism of him, even when he plays well so here’s my take:

I‘d be amazed if Keane isn’t here next season. I’d be very happy if we shift him, but I can’t see it happening. We have priorities elsewhere. Keane is better than Holgate (I have continually said he’s not a starter to much criticism on here). If we go into next season with Godfrey, Mina, Keane & Branthwaite I think that’ll do for now.

If we get a top RB in, it will actually help Keane.

Sadly, I have to agree with that.

I think that would be a total disaster.

1: Were stuck playing deep again (where Ancelotti has said again today he wants improvement playing higher up).

2: Mina started 23 league games this season and played in 24. Several of these hes been rushed back from injury for. Last season it was 25 starts and 4 sub.

This means that for a substantial amount of league games we'll likely have Keane/Godfrey with Branthwaite on the bench. Its not ideal.

3: To develop and reach his potential Godfrey should be playing with a centre back who complements him. To me hes ideal for us to play higher up the pitch...he wont be able to do that.

4: There will be no strong leader in the defence. I dont know any top side who has not had a strong leader at the back.

5: Selling Holgate is effectively selling Godfreys backup. It also prevents us going 3 at the back (ok). I dont have a problem swapping Holgate for Branthwaite as the backup option -- it doesnt improve us though.

6: If we get in a top RB are we going to then tell them "careful not to go too far up the pitch as we need you to stand next to Keane all game as hes got no athleticism"...

Were limiting that RB as well as Godfrey.

.... I’m the one who said we should sell Keane when his stock was high. I’m trying to be realistic. It wouldn’t be a ‘total disaster’ if he stays, there are much more pressing issues for the team that don’t involve defending higher up the pitch.

I’ve no idea if Holgate will be sold. I‘ve been consistent in my criticism of him too (he’s worst than Keane) & it would be very disappointed if Branthwaite isn’t leapfrogging him in the pecking order.

Assume Keane will be here, he’s a problem but he’s not a major problem. Acquiring players who help win us home games is the major problem.

Yes it's not that I rate Keane - anything but.
I think @Eggs is right, though, in that our priorities lie elsewhere, and I'll be surprised if he's not here next season - preferably as a bench warmer.

Holgate's been shocking this year, right from that pre-season game when he got injured. Don't know why because he progressed last season. Attitude? Not as good as he thinks he is?

I'd love us to buy a strong leader in defence, so long as it's not Ashley Williams!

Disagree on Keane gents...for me i see it as a disaster if he stays.

"We have an idea, a clear plan on how we can improve the squad. In the summer we will follow this plan. We have to put, in general, more quality in the squad to try to play more attractive football, to have more quality from the back. This is where we are working."

Thats Ancelotti after the game....i hope it means a CB + RB.

Any time he makes a mistake and a player goes past him he just jogs back like he doesn’t have a care in the world.

Southgate should phone him and just laugh.

Joke is that Southgate capped him lol

Well if that's Carlo's plan, and it comes to fruition, great. No arguments from me.

Be good to get some quality signed, and early enough for them to bed in preseason.

This is Everton, though, and I can imagine us scrambling around and bringing someone in on loan on transfer deadline day.

For me that second goal should seal his fate, what on earth was he thinking lolloping into city’s press machine then jogging back without a care in the world as they scored,he holds us back ,his lack of pace limits other players in that back 4,times up for me

If im Ancelotti (or any manager) im seeing Mina miss approx 1/3 of the league games and Keane not able to play how i want to play (based on what Ancelotti has said with a high line and more quality from the back).

Im seeing Holgates form fall off a cliff and playing Coleman RM as i dont trust him at RB any more.

There has to be very fast moves in the market before preseason in defence. You cant have defenders for a low block in preseason and then change to a high line right before the start of the season.

He is and always will be just a Burnley defender.

He's extremely limited but even within those limitations he still manages to get it wrong. That Aguero header he had no idea he was there. Obviously you can lie blame at Pickford and or Godfrey for not communicating (if they didn't) but he had absolutely no clue who was around him.

The 2nd goal too, there are no words at all. Just so so stupid.
