2020/21 Michael Keane

He was the second best english CB for 3/4s of the season behind Stones. Didnt deserve to be dropped from the england squad a couple of months ago and still doesn't now. Not that I have any faith in Southgate anyway. England flatter to deceive and will most likely crumble again against half decent opposition

Completely disagree. Fair play to Southgate for noticing the obvious - Keane is a mental midget who can't be relied on.

Decent in a low block, near disaster when we try to do anything a little more progressive. Playing him means a huge chasm between defence and attack. The midfield has neither the nous or the legs to bridge said chasm and the result is that we’re pretty much the worst team on the ball to watch in the league.

However the worst thing for me is his fragile confidence. I recall him being on a decent run of form, going to play for England and making a cock-up which led to a goal. I remember thinking “bang goes his good form” and right as rain he ended up coming back to us, played poorly for a number of weeks and was eventually benched.

Unfortunately modern day Everton reward this sort of player with a new contract. If he’s starting for us next season we may as well book ourselves in for the coveted 8-12th slot so beloved of our current team
Is that you Ijjysmith?
No mid, but, and correct me if I'm thinking about different game as i have little interest in Internationals, but did he score not long after his howler.

Its a shame....the England international status kept his value at a premium.

Hopefully theres a buyer out there somewhere.

International career is over.
Should the same be said about his Everton career?
It appears CA seems to like him, but let's be honest, when he plays the entire game plan seems to be for our back line to be cemented to the six yard box. largely caused by the cement in his boots. He has the turning circle of the QE2.
This from me who dislikes criticising any of our players. but I think retaining him in pole for a CB berth will massively halt any aspirations to play free flowing fast football.

Agreed, im not a massive fan of him.

Although I do see the need for his type in the squad.

having donkey Keane in the squad would change that lol
Hopefully his Everton career is over this summer along with his England one

I don't want to seem like I am on a crusade to have him run out of town, but I take your point and interpret it in the broadest possible manner.
Your point relating to needing a player of his calibre in the squad is reasonably valid, but I would qualify that by adding he be used in specific games only, and not as an automatic choice.
The problem with that is, as has been pointed out by many, if he is not a first choice his head seems to implode ,ergo, his game would be affected.
Therefore, I would say a player of his type needs to be in the squad, just perhaps not MK himself.

Agree completely.

He may be of some value, can defo see him at West Ham.

I think that as a 38-game-player that will occasionally leak points through mistakes, there's an argument for him at the club level over a better CB that misses time.

This does not apply at the international level with its do-or-die games, and full marks to Southgate for realizing it.

I would keep Keane me, ok he fell off a cliff like the rest of the team at the end of the season but i think he's decent.
