I don't. I've seen that mistake too many times from him, faulty positioning and then not the strength to rectify it. I don't think he will end up being first choice for Carlo, he's just not sharp enough. (that's not to say he hasn't improved his game hugely, I just don't think he will be good enough for the team Carlo wants to build)

he looks far better on the left hand side of defence sitting deep where Carlo has him. Quite frankly though we couldn’t play any other way with him because of his lack of pace. He’s doing well currently but I still rate Holgate ahead of him by a long way.

agreed, I think the two youngsters will end up first choice

I know what you mean but playing 3 at the back with players you don't know well confuses the issue in picking players up. It wouldn't have helped

You've not been watching him very closely this season.
I watch him very closely every game, that’s why I notice his flaws are are all still there, one exception, he’s started using the five and ten yard gaps that have always been there in front of him since he came from Burnley, doesn’t use them often enough but when he does he’s created something.

Now if he could become aware of where he is, stop being two seconds behind the game in his head, start reading the game, become more aggressive and bossing his opponents and try organising his fellow defenders I’d be happier with him.I’d still notice his other mistakes though!!!

Eighty % of his game is the easy safety pass, can’t read a game, still not aware of what’s going on around him, much too nice, why would you give him the armband, you need an inspiring player to captain and inspire his fellow players, Michael is not the man, doubt, very much, he is here to stay with Everton, not good or strong enough.

Disagree.

80% of every centre halve's passing game is an easy safety pass. I'd actually say 80% is quite low - suggesting that Keane is bigger risk taker than most. And there's no need to be taking too many risks when your 5 or 10 yard pass is to Gomes, Allan or Rodirguez. Let them do the magic.

However I think he has improved with punchy passes through the lines this season. Couple of great balls over the top to DCL and Richy that have stretched the opposition.

He's our ball winning centre half, unusual to have another one in Mina next to him. Think Holdgate or Godfrey will eventually play the 'covering' centre half.

Will admit that I have changed my tune to MK. Towards mid point of last season he was first on my list of players to sell. What a job Ancelotti has done and you feel that he must see some leadership qualities in him - especially given he has admitted coming back from anxiety/depressive period. That's a good example to set to your squad - not every leader is impervious to error and admitting vulnerability is a leadership quality (perhaps not in the traditional macho centre half sense).

Played the full match i see...despite Ancelotti mentioned last time that Keane was a bit tired with the amount of football he played so far. Hopefully he will not be a starter in the next 2 England games...because if he is, he could get messy against Liverpool.

Okay. Some people change their minds like oil tankers change direction, which is fair enough. Would be interested to hear your thoughts at the end of the season.

Yes you’re right, 80% was too low on the easy pass, I did mention he’s improved, slightly, on passing the ball through the lines. I don’t see any leadership qualities in Michaels play, but you are correct again, it’s what Carlo sees in our players, not the fans, hope Carlo sees what I can’t. I‘m definitely glad he’s over any depressive worries he had, I wish him well, I just see him the I see him, slight improvement, very slight, but nothing to want me to keep him here permently.

I think he didn’t get the arm band as Coady is quite vocal, or as Roy Keane said a typical loud scouser (or words to that effect)
Still at least Michael Keane wasn’t sloppy at the back

Well I hope I have changed my mind about Michael, as you say, at the end of the season, I’m big enough to put my hands up and admit when I’m wrong, let’s wait and see and in the meantime enjoy the better quality football that we are all, I think, seeing from the team.

In fairness he has improved in certain area's and when we're playing a deeper back line he is a very good Premier defender. He does still have issues, not least his lack of pace and recovery abilities, and occasionally his positioning although the latter is greatly improved of late.

However I really have to take issue with your comments on his distribution. The majority of his passes, as you would expect with every single defender in world football without exception, are easy safe passes. But Kene does also have the ability to pass forward accurately. In the Englnd game the other night, which is the match that people were specifically talking about if I'm not mistaken, he was the only player out of the back 8 who was consistently able to break the lines and find one of the front 3. His distribution was excellent in that game. All the other midfielders, defenders and the keeper were unable to make a decent forward pass.

To be honest, Keane makes the easy pass even when the player he passes to is covered, lots of times by two players, so the ball usuallycomes back to him, he’ll then pass it to his fellow centre back, who passes it back to him, and he passes it back to Pickford who started the whole nonsense again or Kicks it up the field. Watch Godfrey when he gets in the team, which can’t be quick enough for me, he’ll use the ball much better than Michael without dithering about and giving the opposition time to regroup.

I’m glad you enjoyed him playing for England, in a friendly game, he wasn’t used at all in the last two international, not even from the bench, let’s see if he plays in the next two competitive games for England, not that England games interest me very much.

You sound like some of the posters in the DCL thread, manfully sticking to their guns “I watch him closely and he’s never a prem striker, not good enough” etc... What are you hoping to achieve, come on here when Keane inevitably makes a mistake to say “told you so”? How pointless. Nobody thinks Keane is perfect or has no flaws, he does and everyone knows what they are, even Keane himself. People see a guy really trying to step up his performances, making a marked improvement and are getting behind him - maybe you should try it.
