2020/21 Michael Keane

To be honest, Keane makes the easy pass even when the player he passes to is covered, lots of times by two players, so the ball usuallycomes back to him, he’ll then pass it to his fellow centre back, who passes it back to him, and he passes it back to Pickford who started the whole nonsense again or Kicks it up the field. Watch Godfrey when he gets in the team, which can’t be quick enough for me, he’ll use the ball much better than Michael without dithering about and giving the opposition time to regroup.

I’m glad you enjoyed him playing for England, in a friendly game, he wasn’t used at all in the last two international, not even from the bench, let’s see if he plays in the next two competitive games for England, not that England games interest me very much.
Well I hope you learn to enjoy watching Keane play for Everton in the Premier league because you're going to be seeing a lot more of him than you think you are.

As for not being part of our plans, that's why we gave him an extension to his contract a few months ago when he still had 2 years left.

You sound like some of the posters in the DCL thread, manfully sticking to their guns “I watch him closely and he’s never a prem striker, not good enough” etc... What are you hoping to achieve, come on here when Keane inevitably makes a mistake to say “told you so”? How pointless. Nobody thinks Keane is perfect or has no flaws, he does and everyone knows what they are, even Keane himself. People see a guy really trying to step up his performances, making a marked improvement and are getting behind him - maybe you should try it.
I might sound like the posters who continually have a go at Dominic except I have backed Dominic since he first came into the Everton team, what I don’t do now is criticise the fans who didn’t rate him,

What Keane does in the future, I hope, is improve, then I’ll let you know about it, what I do now is point out the flaws in his game, they are there for everyone to see, so when people tell me he is now a very good centre .back I disagree, I just don’t see it.

Jordan Pickford, I don’t rate him, praised him for his performance at Spurs, thought he was getting his game up, he was important in that game, had a good hand in us getting the three points, last Saturday he was poor, he looks shot, his confidence looks shattered , I won’t have a go at him, never will, when a player is down and on the floor, not my style.

Back to Michael Keane, don’t know the lad, can see he is a nice genuine person, too nice for me on the field, not aggressive enough, that’s his nature, it doesn’t help him, unfortunately, as a footballer.

You have your opinion, that’s fine, and I have mine, believe me when I tell you I never moan for the sake of moaning.

Well I think one of the reasons he got his new contract is to keep his transfer price up to a decent level when he eventually goes, if he stays here I know if he continues to play the way he is now, I won’t enjoy watching him, my heart is in my mouth every time the opposition are on the attack, gives me palpitations watching his brain kick into play, two seconds behind everyone else.

If or when Godfrey gets in the team he will most likely be playing with Keane

Well I think you may need to endure him for a couple more seasons then.

I think Carlo will pair either him or Mina with either Godfrey and Holgate in most games, once Holgate is fit and the new lad settles in. I think that offers a good combination of height, strength, pace and quality on the ball.

It will be interesting to see what Carlo's first choice partnership is because I don't think there's much between them.

Maybe, you got the height right in Michaels case!!!

That’s great, glad you backed Dom - the folk in his thread getting pelters aren’t getting hammered because they didn’t rate him a few years ago though. They’re getting criticised, quite rightly, because they’ve intransigently stuck to and or continued to stick to their initial assessment (that he’s not good enough and not going to be good enough) despite it being blindingly obvious to any objective viewer that he was improving. It’s not a great leap to suggest you’re doing the same with Keane.

As far as Keane goes, you’ve said it yourself, you’re pointing out his flaws and they’re there for everyone to see.... so what’s the point? Who do you think you’re pointing them out to, we all know his limitations, nobody’s pretending they’ve gone away.

What he’s doing well at the moment and where he’s improved, are the areas of his game that should be his strengths but haven’t been. He’s looking way more commanding defending the box, clearing, tackling, looking a threat in the oppos box. He’s even improved his passing which is something I never thought he would but fair play to him.

Commanding the box, tackling.you really think he’s improved in those two areas, I’m pointing his flaws out, the ones you’re saying he’s improved in, he hasn’t improved them for me, tackling? If you saw the Salford game, their centre forward went past him like the statue he is, this is inside the penalty area, improved his passing, four good passes in seven games, it’s took him four years to realise he can move with the ball, he’s twenty six years of age and you’re saying “ fair play to him” for improving his passing at this age!!
