All players go through good and bad patches.

On GOT there are very few people whose opinion of a player that I genuinely respect and players like Keane provide the perfect example of where the crowd turn on a player and want him out of the team and the club.

Recent months should show supporters that the manager is key and they should be a little more circumspect when writing a player off completely.

He's the player who along with DCL has improved massively. He's certainly cut out his poor positoning a lot more so he's not getting caught as much as he was (though I think he actually went back to his old Utd coach for some advice on this), he's found his belief, he's found his aggression, he's dominant and he looks like he's going to get his head on the ball in the opposition box.

Delighted to see him play so well. I'm not his biggest fan by any stretch but I've certainly got a lot of respect that he's fought to save his Everton career since Ancelotti came in.

He's one of the first two or three first names on the team sheet and has been since Carlo Ancellotti arrived. It was amusing (and bizarre in equal measure) that some Blues thought we'd try and replace him in the summer.

The equation for our centre back partnership reads Keane + one other. I've got to hold my hands up, I thought he was a lost cause after his first season and whilst he did improve alongside Zouma in his second season, it all went wrong again as the team fell apart under Silva.

The arrival of Carlo has been the making of him and he's easily one of my favourite players now.

I like that he is willing and able to play the long ball. Lots of teams in the PL press and it's nice to catch them off guard every now and then

Looks a different player since Carlo arrived. Much more assured and seems to know his role way better. Chipping in woth the odd goal now too. Cant complain, is turning out to be one of Walsh’s better buys, something i honestly did not see coming.

Agree with all the recent posts. Has definitely come good so far this season and I'm really looking forward to seeing him alongside Holgate. Together they could become a dominant pairing - things are definitely looking up for Keane.

Meant to say.. that first-time half volley thing he did straight onto James's foot on the right to set up the Richarlison chance was boss - great awareness and technique there.

I think you have to take into consideration systems and the players around them when you judge players sometimes.

Keane is a good example - he's had spells of great form at Everton, and those have mostly coincided with us having a decent midfield unit in front of him and us not playing a particularly high line. I've had moments with Keane where I've absolutely lost the plot with him, but his strengths are there for everyone to see, so it's a case of minimising his exposure to areas where he is weaker and, as you might expect of a manager of his experience and skill, Ancelotti has done that extremely well with Keane. Silva, in particular, on the other hand often left him exposed with his full back high up the pitch with little midfield cover. Ask Keane to defend a channel high up the pitch in a foot race and you're asking for trouble.

The same goes for Calvert-Lewin - he has been steadily improving for years, but the goalscoring form hasn't come from him suddenly becoming a star overnight, it's mostly to do with the system and the way we have tried to get the best out of him.

Keane was criticized here and elsewhere for his weak mentality, and justifiably so.

Now, he's just quietly dependable. No muss, no fuss. Deals with incoming crosses calmly. Gets the ball forward neatly - and a few times with passes that James would envy. A dangerous target on set pieces. A leader without screaming and jumping up and down. The rock of the defence and no one outside of our fanbase is even noticing how good he's been.

His darts buddy Pickers would do well to emulate him.

But, isn't that the very point I am making.
Players are written off on here as useless without taking any of the many other factors into account that influences a players performance.
