Yet Dier and Maguire are? Pair of absolute crabs.

Shame for him but least he can have a rest, played a lot of football this season so a few weeks break will do him good.

Maguire has been the starting centre-back for years, and Dier is another who always seems to be in the squad.

Southgate sticks with certain players that he thinks fit his mould. Maddison is another one who never gets a look-in, even though he often seems to be outperforming lads that are more pace than finesse, but who are always picking up caps.

On the one hand I can see why Southgate wouldn’t pick him. Does he really have the pace or mentality to go and win a euros or World Cup? Not in my view. On the other hand I’ve no idea why he then picks Eric Dier and Coady who are even worse.

There’s no consistency of selection with England which means we just spin the wheel each tournament with no idea of who the team will be. Other countries play with a core of players through a 2 year campaign even if it means ignoring the latest flavours of the month.

I agree with you mate, Keane does lack that pace and not really impressed at international level. Havnt seen much of Dier this season so cant comment on his form. Coady seems to be playing well. Think Stones and Macquire will be first choice.

Shocking omission from the England squad. England's loss is Everton's gain as he will now get a good rest.
This says much more about the incompetence of Southgate than Keane's ability and form.

Dier can also cover DM so that might be the thinking behind him being included because he is a fairly average CB but 4th choice CB and 2nd choice DM gives you more space to get an extra attacker in the squad.

But if I'm Southgate I'm not calling him up either. Sorry but for me I haven't yet shaken the idea he's a mental midget. I wouldn't rely on him in tournaments.

Would say Stones and Keane have been the 2 English CB's who have been most consistent throughout the league. Maguire has played woeful, Coady the same and Dier is absolutely laughable. Gutted for Keane like as he will obviously want to be there but made up as he get's a break and time to rest. Loved his Instagram post today by the way.
