Noticed today he gets caught out a lot by long balls aswell, seems to ball watch and not watch the man making the run, happened 2/3 times today, got bailed out twice by coleman covering.

I mean it deffo wasn't, Keane put him under pressure with the stupid pass, both at fault.

He's an international midfielder, earning probably a hundred grand a week, who played for Barcelona. If he can't control and lay off a simple pass into feet then something is badly wrong. He made a total hash of it because he saw a defender pressing him. He panicked and tried to foul him because his touch was so heavy.

Today wasn’t really about the defence. The midfield shape in front of them was all over the shop and has been for ages. In a 442 you can’t really get away with playing two inside forwards as wide midfield players, ends up being more like a 424 too often, they’re not natural wide midfielders.

The number of times we turned the ball over up the pitch, cheaply, and Gordon, Iwobi and one of the two central midfielders were caught ahead of the ball was insane. They countered quickly and in numbers running straight through a vacated midfield area straight at the back line. We’re lucky we only conceded two, the back line were passable (although Seamus was really poor) given the ridiculous circumstances. It’s naive to think we can play like that, replace a centre back or two and we’ll be fine.

Same way Keane is an international player and doesn't realise passing out of defence to a feller who's going to be instantly closed down and put us on the back foot is a ridiculous decision.

Both at fault, next.
