Quite suprised this threads not been bumped having seen his pathetic duck-out-of-the-way for Deeneys goal yesterday. If that had been Williams he’d have been slaughtered. Not a lover of Jagielka or Williams but they do put their bodies in front of stuff.
He’s been horrendous since he’s been here...will he improve at all?
It wasn't a duck out of the way though was it? It was him trying to stop the shot with his head that was flying at him from about 5 foot. His feet were planted, so no real option, to dive.

He had a decent game yesterday. No need to scapegoat.

I thought he had a decent game yesterday. Williams was nowhere near Deeney when the ball came into the box, Deeney had enough time to knock the ball away from his feet and then turn and hit it. If every day is a school day then yesterday Williams was marked absent.
While our defence is taking a lot of criticism, and rightly so, yesterday's defeat was about a team showing no ambition to try and win. While our players are poor they do need to be sent out with a plan to win against teams like Watford.
It is noteworthy that Keane has come out and said the defeat is down to lack of creativity. Also pundits are now critical of Fat Sam's obsession with clean sheets. Hopefully the return of Baines, Coleman and maybe Funes Mori will re-vitalise Keane and Fat Sam will be gone and we will start taking a bit of pressure of the defenders by not giving the ball away every time we cross the halfway line.

Amazing how some people have such an agenda they are trying to blame him for the goal yesterday. Keane played well, hes now played well in 2 of the last 3. That goal was the fault of Martina and Williams, one who stopped following his runner, and the other who somehow let overweight Troy Deeney get 5 yards of separation 10 yards from the goal. No striker should EVER be able to turn like that and have that simple finish. Williams just couldnt be bothered to try and stay tight, or is so far past it hes incapable.

The goal was down to Williams 100%. Watch the replays when Deeney runs off to celebrate his shirt can barely contain his gut. To be left for dead by his actually poor first touch and allow what was an admittedly good turn and shot was indefensible (no pun intended). Williams remained rooted to the spot and slid across much too late. Keane was behind him still moving across to cover the guy with the assist as he should. The shot going near his head was coincidence.

agree with that, though it was a good shot, I think both defenders could have and should have done more to throw themselves in front of it

Not scapegoating Mate ....asking why an international defender moves out of the line of a shot. It’s his job to stop shots on goal. As bad as Jagielka is he would have took one in the face.

Nobody said he was poor yesterday....simply questioned his ability to put his body on the line. Duck it ( pardon the pun)as much as you like with this agenda rubbish, but he messed up yesterday.

For me he's very much a confidence player, playing in an ever changing back four with zero confidence. I'd put Holgate alongside him for the rest of the season and give them some responsibility to form a partnership with each other. The constant chopping and changing is utter madness.

Dreadful defender, gets destroyed by any movement
In one.

That's true, but a settled back two won't solve his lack of movement. He's an immobile payer. He's Steve Bruce but without the positional sense.

As before. He didn't. Just missed the hesder. He was beaten by the pace of the shot same way Pickford was.

It's similar to a cricketer trying to defend but getting to it late. Had he managed to head it, I expect he'd have been knocked out.
