My own daft opinion is that Keane may be a good defender, but is too slow.

With him in the team, the defence, I would expect, will sit deep. This will limit their ability to close-down ('press') as a team, to counter-attack without leaving big gaps in defence/ between defence and midfield and finally defend against pace.

Sell and replace with the proceeds.

He has a skill set, i was talking to a Burnley fan the other day and i mentioned he was very slow, he said what had we done to him.

There is a player there, but he needs coaching his decisions of when to stick or twist need a lot of work and to many times last season he made a poor choice. To be fair his confidence was low and he came into a mess, i think he could improve with some good coaching though i wouldn't be prepared to write him off. Though his form at Burnley was deceptive, Dyche get every ounce of talent and probably more out of his players.

I strongly believe him to be a good player, just poorly managed this season.

If he is a deep defender then the obvious answer is to pair him with a more attack minded partner. Not sure if that could be Mori though.

He’s not slow. He’s fast straight ahead. But all the straight ahead speed is pretty worthless if you aren’t quick and can’t read and anticipated what is happening around you. Maybe worth another go around under a better manager, but I don’t see a top flight PL defender in there.

That interesting. I never saw him play at Burnley, maybe I should hunt for some YouTube compilation before deciding (as if my opinion counted

I'll take you on your word but I confess I can't remember seeing him move at any particular pace myself.

Can we include in pace things like speed of turn, acceleration over a few metres, would he be slow then?

I'm just doing some utter conjecture, but I can't see him doing well in a back four that presses quite high as part of a team shape. Which is my guess for the style if Silva gets the manager job.

Give him another chance? Let's not. He's looked utterly hopeless under all 3 managers this season and no surprise burnley look way better without the tin man in their side. Been a failure, get as much as we can for him and get in some athletic defenders

Silva is good at getting the best out of players but he cant magically speed them up...did the burnley fan say he had any recovery pace and agility?

Try and recoup as much of his fee back and get in someone else

Yep.

If were aiming for top 4. Hes nowhere near that level.
...selling may net a similar fee to a low/mid table side.

How much are we getting and from who?

Yeah, it's possible that he'll silence all his critics next season (I don't think he's going to be leaving us). But I somehow doubt it.

He didnt it happened to be over a few pints, so you can imagine the conversation. I suppose what i took it from it is that Burnley play with a very deep tight center half combo. When you look at mistakes Keane has made it has tended to be in positions of decision making and marking, i think the way we play makes him think far more. Hes great when defenders are in front of him but for me its when he has to stick or twist or players in behind he makes poor decisions. I dont think he i particularly slow if im honest, some of the best center half ever didnt have blinding pace, positioning and decision making can definitely compensate pace. Thats all very coachable.

I agree under BFS did not help with his poor tactics.
