Migrant Crisis

The bit I struggle to understand are those who have fled the immediate danger, but continue to risk their lives in pursuit for a better life, rather than the initial prompt which was a safe life.

75% of asylum seekers are young men, so it's probably safe to say that in addition to fleeing danger, many want to set themselves up as best they can, before then sending for any dependents they have.

Do you think the Syrians care about us? They are indifferent to us at best or hate us at worse.

lol, someone posted this same comment on the daily fail.

Do you spend a lot of time with Syrians to come to this conclusion ? Perhaps you've conducted a poll ? Or maybe you're just making outrageous assumptions based on nothing ?

that is certainly an option, do nothing and let people die
They wouldn't be dying if they stayed in Turkey. They aren't coming to avoid warfare, they want to come to the UK, Germany and Sweden for the money. Should we just roll out the red carpet for them?

Our government can not be blamed for these deaths, blame the parents of these poor children who tried to smuggle them into Europe illegally.

Also language is a big factor - English is very widespread and most people know it more than they know other foreign languages.

Also, side note: why are me and you agreeing that housing migrants is a good and acceptable thing, we're right wing, we're supposed to hate them right? lol

I suppose you can look at this in two ways. Migrants could come to Britain because we have a strong economy, good education, the global language and various other things that help someone get on in life (ie it's a compliment that people wish to come here). Or, alternatively, migrants could come all this way because we're a soft touch and they can sit watching Sky tv smoking their welfare cheque.

I dare say you might get people that do both, but I would hazard a guess that the majority do so for the former reason than for the latter.

Exactly. I suspect many migrants come to Britain for the same reason that you yourself came here. Good education opportunities, decent economy, great football team and lots of loose women ;)

some very humane comments at the start of this, then of course it gets swamped with people who are actually scared by this human response. I just wish some people would be more honest and say 'I just don't care'. All the stats you try don't add up, any organised society copes easily with an influx of people, always has. If you would seriously turn people away who are in desperate situations. Fine. Stand by that. But don't start moaning when someone snatches your i-phone and no-one cares.

Have to pay close attention to the facts though.

The graphs/stats I keep seeing recycled across the likes of Twitter is from 2014.

What about from say, 2010?

It also fails to mention how much aid has been provided by each country...

Per migrant, the support the UK would provide would cost considerably more than most, if not all other countries.

I think this is part of the issue for the UK. We have always allowed refugees and indeed economic migrants to enter the country. Since the gates were opened in 1997 we have allowed millions to enter. As a country we have always allowed far more in than the likes of Germany who are now doing the shouting. The issue is that Germany and co did not feel the brunt of mass immigration until very recently and are now shouting that something must be done. Of course real refugees should be accommodated if they are facing persecution, but they are not facing persecution in Europe. Our population now has 8 million extra people who were not born here, the population of Scotland and Wales combined. This cannot continue as there just isn't the housing and infrastructure that can materialise out of thin air. Real refugees, measured in the hundreds or low thousands would be more than welcome, and should be top of the list, but not while we are also importing hundreds of thousands of economic migrants each year.....this will continue until Europe puts back her borders and then allows refugees priority......

I tried to conduct a poll in Damascus but they kept pelting me with stones and hitting me with their sandles.
