Migrant Crisis

I suppose you can look at this in two ways. Migrants could come to Britain because we have a strong economy, good education, the global language and various other things that help someone get on in life (ie it's a compliment that people wish to come here). Or, alternatively, migrants could come all this way because we're a soft touch and they can sit watching Sky tv smoking their welfare cheque.

I dare say you might get people that do both, but I would hazard a guess that the majority do so for the former reason than for the latter.

I see it as ISIS spreading thier wings in to Europe. Half of these refugees are most likely ISIS fighters.

On a related note. I had a chat with my mother in law the other day and discussion got onto this topic. She's a simple lady, bless her, and after a comment from the Czech president she was concerned that the government would invoke a kind of bedroom tax and jettison a refugee in any spare bedroom going

some very humane comments at the start of this, then of course it gets swamped with people who are actually scared by this human response. I just wish some people would be more honest and say 'I just don't care'. All the stats you try don't add up, any organised society copes easily with an influx of people, always has. If you would seriously turn people away who are in desperate situations. Fine. Stand by that. But don't start moaning when someone snatches your i-phone and no-one cares.

I trust you will be inviting a refugee family to stay with you. Don't talk about it and lecture others from your moral high horse, do something.........

Regardless of the reasons they want to come here for. It should be our decision who we allow in our country.

I think this is part of the issue for the UK. We have always allowed refugees and indeed economic migrants to enter the country. Since the gates were opened in 1997 we have allowed millions to enter. As a country we have always allowed far more in than the likes of Germany who are now doing the shouting. The issue is that Germany and co did not feel the brunt of mass immigration until very recently and are now shouting that something must be done. Of course real refugees should be accommodated if they are facing persecution, but they are not facing persecution in Europe. Our population now has 8 million extra people who were not born here, the population of Scotland and Wales combined. This cannot continue as there just isn't the housing and infrastructure that can materialise out of thin air. Real refugees, measured in the hundreds or low thousands would be more than welcome, and should be top of the list, but not while we are also importing hundreds of thousands of economic migrants each year.....this will continue until Europe puts back her borders and then allows refugees priority......
Statistics of this, por favor?

i love this analogy, i imagine people see a load of left wingers in sandals prying open a big gate that had been nailed shut by maggie, big blue letters 'no room here! yours 'the tories'

then the 'do gooders' pry off the last nail on 'the gates' then everyone comes flying in 'not all at once!' cries sky, but its too late as all the gate openers are crushed to death
