but no-one will be forced out of their home. it will create a burden on housing and people may arrive here who will soon leave the system but there is no alternative. The burden still always falls on the poor in nearly every nation. Migration just happens to be one burden we generally haven't had to face, more by luck of environment than anything else, but we could easily and might in the future. We just can't afford to turn people away in desperate need even if it means a burden in the short term and people gaining who have no right to. The alternative is that we unintentionally buy into a world view that sees people as a burden. If only....
Fact is, if we accept all sorts of refugees they'll have to be housed. The grossly unfair bedroom tax has already seen to a diaspora of the poor and an exodus from the capital in particular.
More will be forced out of their homes to accommodate families of asylum seekers & refugees. It will not end well.

looks like him, he is the idol of the foot troops of the far right in Germany, Dortmund footy hooligan and put up for office in his home town.Is that Gary Glitter?
They weren't being bombed, mutilated and driven from their homes under Assad.
I think I'm right in saying that any housing of refugees or asylum seekers takes place outside of London and the south-east as there are more houses available elsewhere. That or the elite don't want the scruffs in their back yard (yes I know some of you will think that)

The point is though that allowing people to settle is not the way in which mass migrations due to disaster or war have historically been dealt with; what happens is (as is happening with Syrians now who flee to the south and Jordan, rather than to Turkey) that camps are established in the nearest "safe" country and then supported by that country and the international community.
What is happening now is that Turkey, where Erdogan holds a vast amount of personal responsibility for all of this horror, is getting rid of some of its responsibilities for these people and is shooing the refugees towards Europe. Refugee camps should be established on those Greek islands and the EU should pay for it all (ideally by seizing the funds that Erdogan and his chums have stashed over here).
I meant they won't be forced out of housing to accomodate asylum seekers. The media will support this Government's draconian housing policies to claim it is happening but in practice it is highly unlikely. Look at where they have been housed in Liverpool..Crete and Candia Towers was declared totally unsuitable for living when a student died there. But hundreds of refugees from the Iraq war where put in there with no means to repair damage and no legal recourse if anything happened to them. I agree that they will be placed in areas that can least afford to house people but they are never given priority in my experience.
Really? What's the bedroom tax done?
It really is astounding how many news outlets continue to call these refugees immigrants. There is a big difference that sadly a large portion of the population can not seem to grasp, media feeding them bile being the primary reason.
Talked about it today in work and I was shocked at how readily people put EU migrants and refugees into the same box, education needed.

Horrible as it was they were confined to certain towns. This is the reason for the crisis :Were they not? I thought the Assad regime was dropping barrel bombs & chemical weapons on them.....
I don't think that......I KNOW that the case. The evidence is there that that's exactly what's happening. There's only so much you can palm off on the already deprived before they start to get angry.
You start housing refugees & asylum seekers at the expense of the already disenfranchised natural populace and that's when the proverbial hits the proverbial. You'll see an exponential rise in the far-right parties support.
