Militant thread locking

OK, I know I am going to get some MOD grief for posting this but, why keep locking threads when they get a little bit political.

It's a forum ffs and this is the ALE HOUSE, an "Off Topic board where you can discuss whatever you want."

It's worse than bluekipper (shudder) for trigger-happy mods locking threads and threatening posters who dare to get political or mildly contraversial.

In closing the Israel thread, the mods are no better than MOSAD.

Threads are being locked because people seem to be acting like children at the moment. Whilst the middle east thing does combine both politics and religion, the way the original post set the scene was hell bent on winding things up.

Likewise the op in this thread suggesting we're being militant or something. FFS man, a grip really is needed y'know? Even the thread asking you guys if you wanted politics to be allowed descended into the biggest pile of poo of a thread.

We're just volunteers here, if you guys want to debate the grown up stuff then some sensible behaviour wouldn't go amiss. Otherwise it's much easier on our own time if we just lock things down because history's been telling us things get ugly in next to no time.

Nik has been banned for this very reason. The ball is very much in your court.

Actually and I dont mean to make a major issue of this, but Nik wasnt banned for "this very reason".

He was banned due to infractions, the last of which was given for this post.

That was merely the infraction that tipped him over the edge I'm afraid. He'd received several warnings about his approach to debating and didn't heed any of them.

There was a note by Danny a while back about members that required undue mod attention, and for all Nik's good qualities, at the moment he falls into that camp. Hopefully a spell away from the site will encourage him to think a bit before he types.

It isn't really fair to discuss Nik's situation in public though, especially as he has no right of reply. I'm sure if anyone wants to discuss it with one of the mod team we'll be happy to explain the rationale behind it via pm.
