minor things that make you fume

Maybe it's because being an old guy I remember poorer times - but private contractors /utility companies - currently digging up roads causing congestion everywhere.... I've noticed that the workers ALWAYS have new kit, the flatbed trucks are expensive Mercedes ones and the traffic lights (damn them to hell and hades) are also new. These companies must collect so much cash from the punters that they don't have to make do with cheaper alternatives or make things last longer. So wasteful and selfish, in austere times - why not just charge people less?
Why don't the councils force the prices down?

Miles upon miles of roadworks on the M6, and you're lucky if you actually see any work taking place. Why do we stand for this?

Damned right. Refer to the freemasons thread I think.
Also, since when do we need to have cones and traffic lights so somebody can work on a pavement? It's health and safety gone mad!

Some tit was trimming hedges on a major road near where I live. He has his flat bed truck right up on the kerb. Then he placed a line of cones around his truck about a foot away from the truck in the road, meaning cars could not pass each other. Caused a massive tailback. Without the cones it'd have been fine. What an idiot.

On my commute, near to my work, last year, some contractors cleared a row of around 8 residents' cars parked outside their homes, to work on the road. These cars always forced a give way culture, as beside them there is only space for one car to go down the road. This is never a problem, as the road isn't busy and at worst, you're held up for a matter of seconds.
They dug a hole and barricaded it off the length of a single car and put traffic lights either side if it. The lights would be timed to be red for three minutes. You could clearly see down the road for aroundv1/4 mile and see that there was nothing there, but you had to sit, waiting, chewing the steering wheel.
After having put up with this (and seeing no work going on) for three weeks, I phoned the council to complain. Not only did they say it had nothing to do with them, they claimed to know nothing about it.
This is the subcontractor / privatisation culture.Councils delegate blame.

They would have had to submit a section 50 notice or similar for highway work. The council should have a record. If not. I'd move the lights or just ignore them..

Having to constantly adjust the tv volume,it used to be a case of adverts being louder than the programmes but now you have to keep changing it through out due to whatever whether its mumbling or random loud music
I'm getting sick of it. We were watching that Decline And Fall programme the other day, and the sound mixing was a joke. They weren't mumbling, it was just the vocals were obviously too low, and the background music way too loud.

Last week, the Thursday before the bank holiday weekend, I went to maghull with some of my family for a quick pub lunch.
We went to two places, both had kids running riot at 7:30pm, whilst the parents sat there drinking bottles of wine by the litre.
In the second place I left after about 20 minutes, on my way out I said to my auntie, cant relax in there, would of been easier for the parents to take the kids to the wacky warehouse to run around lol

As I said it, some woman walked past, in the most snotty, horrific, brassy scouse accent says, what ?! At half 7 at night lad ?!
I just looked at her and said what ? Yeah its better than half 7 at night in a pub whilst the parents are getting leathered, whilst people are eating their meals.
Her response was just yeah, whatever !

Fume is not that she disagreed, the fume was that It took me five minutes to realise that she basically said, going the wacky warehouse at 7:30pm was not on, yet she agreed without realising that kids should not be out at 7:30pm whilst their parents sit there getting smashed

Im not one to say kids cant play, adults cannot drink at 7:30pm after a meal and such, just stop letting your kids run riot whilst others are eating and staff are trying to work.

Whenever I've been abroad, I see families out together in restaurants, bars etc and the children are well behaved and never create a riot, running around and screaming for fun. Why does it happen here? Quality of parenting?

your point 1;Having to constantly adjust the tv volume,it used to be a case of adverts being louder than the programmes
your point No.2; but now you have to keep changing it through out due to whatever whether its mumbling or random loud music

point 1; this is true, 'they' have consistently denied it, one 'expert' even said it was due to the 'different frequencies' used by Ad. makers...but we all know they make them louder to get your attention.
tbh, I try as much as possible to record stuff I watch on my 'skybox' then FWD all the ads.

point 2; if you have 'surround sound' or something similar, disable it or scale it back if poss.

I don't know mate, like I said I don't mind people having their lunch/tea/whatever and have a few glasses afterwards. Its just the kids running riot, we seem to have a culture of let the kids do what they want, until one falls over and smashes their face open, then its a quick claim against the landlord for a slippy floor or something.

My brother is always clashing with my mum regarding his daughter, he is very strict with her just running about in public, yet my mum says just let her explore things. Tough one to say who is right/wrong.

I have the subtitles on nearly all the time for this reason.

It's almost impossible to watch certain programmes due to this
