minor things that make you fume

With Union they play with tag belts until they’re 8/9 and it’s much more about ball handling / passing, rather than speed and tackling.

What I will say is that the League kids usually smash the Union kids when they play them, as they’re faster, much more aggressive and tackle in packs, rather than in ones and twos.

So you need to accept that from the start.

It’s a much nicer environment for the kids though and the parents are much nicer too.

He’ll be fine going the Wids. The is a couple of them going up and their coach for the age limit is made up. If he likes it, will stay. Don’t think he’s to bothered as long as his mates are there training and playing. If had the time, I’d take up the coaching role there cos I’d do a better job than what’s in now.

At what age group do RL teams play against RU teams? Seems like a strange idea.

In both codes, the mistake made in this country is that all youth rugby is played in an age group format, rather than having kids grouped by size. In NZ they organise it all by weight, so the phenomenon of "give the ball to the big lad so he can smash past everyone" doesn't take place. That's how NZ can produce backs who forced turnovers with counter-rucking and back-row forwards who can kick drop goals from 30+ yards in full international test matches (Zinzan Brooke).

A lot of league lads will go play union in the off season. They don’t play cross code games.

At the age of 13 pro clubs like Sale Sharks run player development programmes ( trials by another name). They take boys from both codes on these trials, but the trials are for Union only and if they like the look of some if the League lads they switch codes,

Although a lot of the League kids may also have their foot in the door at the likes of Wigan, St Helens etc and are keeping their options open.

When you go looking for a birthday card and you find one that reminds you of some sex pest on an internet forum...fck you, @Bungle
