minor things that make you fume

When I came out of National Service in 1957 I went for an interview for a job. After a couple of weeks I hadn't heard anything so I phoned. They put me through to the guy who interviewed me and he apologised. He said they were so busy he had forgotten to send me the appointment letter. I very nearly told him to stick his job but didn't. I started the following Monday and stayed for 30 years! Which is also why I now live in the South. The Company's head office was in Windsor.

I wouldn't have waited a couple of weeks. I'd have emailed or texted him straight away ;)

I walked out of an interview once, they asked me how I'd react to being shouted at for making a mistake, I told her that I wouldn't react very well and could be liable to pull someone over a desk and give them a good slapping, (of course I'd already decided that I wasn't going to work there). She then said that the job probably isn't for you, so I stood up and walked to the door and just before leaving turned and said, if staff are shouted at for making a mistake then this company has major issues at management level, one of them started replying to me, I have no idea what he was saying as I'd turned around walked out and closed the door as he started talking. I have a good job now and I'm fairly certain I'll never be on the job hunt again. But I really hate the Americanized process that has made its way across the Atlantic, that basically sees the biggest bullshitter get the job.
Welcome to the madness. My job was recently a small family run business, they sold out to a shareholding corporation....EVERYTHING is run by coffers earned. Work ethic, job satisfaction means nothing to these parasites. It's all about what can you do for the company. So I chatted to my boss and gave new ideas for "growth and ...eughhh..synergy" ....the naughty monkey took my ideas for his own, we are now making strides to "cornering the market" and I saw nothing..Nadal zilch for my idea.....its a hateful new world ...so I'm taking more holiday this week..and sodding the smeggy lot of em.

Yay me.

Synergy don't get me started on the word Synergy, here's a game of buzzword bingo for the next meeting you have.57022

BC means 'Before Christ' while AD is 'Anno Domini' meaning 'In the Year of our Lord'. Both have Christian origins and as such aren't widely accepted any more.

BCE and CE are simply 'Before Common Era' and 'Common Era' so have no religious connotation, apart from following the Gregorian calendar.
Genuinely, thanks for the explanation as I had no idea of the reason for the change.
Hardly surprising that PC has raised its head again.

Pro-active is a word that I despise. “I’m going to be pro-active!” Errr, why can’t you just be active? What’s forward active mean? K’off!

The word “ Robust “ when used in management speak - is the one that gets right on my tits.

It’s like they feel compelled to use it in at least one or more sentence when trying to justify a response to something.

Totally agree. "You understand that we'll investigate this complaint in a robust manner". They look flummoxed by the reply, "So sometimes you do it half-heartedly?"

Job I'm at now told Me i should expect the typical competency bass questions.

Instead it was my manager asking me job related questions and getting to know me, worked out well.

I remember during my hunt for a uni placement and during the final stage, the HR lady being extremely patronising when asked about a question in my sector which I find hard to believe she even knew.
