minor things that make you fume

It's that time of year again.

If I ran a country and didn't want to lose votes by overtly taxing people, then every bank holiday I'd have a word with my mates in the civil engineering industry and have them put up road works traffic lights strategically about the place, even if no actual work was taking place, to cause congestion and delays making loads of people needlessly burn fuel in queues. In return a few more government contracts or a knighhood would go their way in the future. Then I'd have a word with the oil bosses and put up the price of fuel for a week or so, to increase my fuel duty revenue - the oil bosses wouldn't object. Not that that's what has happened around our way or anything. :coffee:

And having sat in one if those 10 minute queues today I had the further pleasure of seeing the lycra clad peneton of Wiggins wannabes - the ones I'd just spent 5 minutes behind as I waited for a safe place to overtake as they ambled 4 abreast, (enthusiastically signalling for me to pass as a blind bend approached ffs) - I had the pleasure of seeing the ENTIRE group of cyclists jump the mile long queue I'd been sat in, by mounting and driving at speed along a busy pavement. Then once they'd passed the just green traffic light, they poured onto the road, stopping traffic that had just started moving, ultimately meaning that the light went red again as I got to them, 3 cars from the front. Another 3 minutes added to my wait before having to wait behind them yet again for a passing place. The pavement ffs!

I've long ago given up expecting cyclists in a mob to be nice rational human beings. It's time they should have number plates so that they're identifiable, reportable and accountable to the law ffs.

The Russian air crash today.

Passengers carrying their bags and cases on the runway after escaping.

Who grabs a bag in that situation FFS.
Seemingly almost everybody. Im sure individually people are great, salt of the earth etc, etc. but collectively??? Thick as pig poo.
I read some where...no doubt profit driven if they can find a way to make a penny from it. That airlines are looking at either doing away with over head lockers and/or centally locking them before take off, not opening them again until after landi g

@Bruce Wayne more than likely … he pays his taxes and is allowed to ride his god damn bike with his buddies anywhere he likes

On narrow crowded pavements?
At road speed?

No.

I have no issue with an Auld fella using his or her bike for transport - but firmly believe cyclists should have to buy a licence to drive in a pack of more than 2 (excluding family groups). The tax can be used to help fix the potholes they constantly moan about.

and all cyclists should be made to take a road test and theory test... if they ride on the road and not on official cycle tracks.

constantly skipping red lights, under taking cars, riding in packs , going round islands without signalling and generally being a pain in the arse , its very dangerous and not always the car drivers fault

I'm pretty sure most such cyclists are car drivers and are fully aware of the laws they flout. This is why I want bikes to have registration plates, so the owners can be made responsible. Currently they're unidentifiable.

Bikes dont cause potholes, you do

Off the top of my head like: all users do. It's heavy or fast transport and the enormous hydraulic pressures caused as heavy or fast moving* tyres press surface water down into tiny gaps (the water then pushes the asphalt apart if it freezes, widening the gap allowing more water in and weakening the surface). I'd suggest that the majority of potholes are caused by shoppers who require vast amounts of tat to be delivered to shops, those shoppers who use buses or drivers of fast powerful cars who like to get to the next set of traffic lights 30 seconds before anyone else.

I seldom shop, if it's a bus journey I'll walk and my cars are either very light, or very slow. I'd hazard a guess that I'm culpable for fewer potholes than average.

*this includes cornering pressures - ergo any cyclist on the road that requires a car to turn as it passes. I'd suggest therefore that cyclists are, in some minor way, also culpable.

nope, and also the system you want to implement is unmanageable and would cost far more than it would return. In terms of culpability I can think of one pedestrian fatality caused by a cyclist, he was easily identified and arrested. Not everything you don't do is awful Chris, you should start smoking weed or masturbating more

Any system implemented is nearly always paid for by those it is imposed upon. Simple to enforce - simply Levy an on the spot fine for any cycle without a visible identification plate. This would be similar to the licencing system imposed on Thames boats. The boats HAVE to have a registered name of a specific font size. Mine costs £800 a year* and I only get to use one river. Cost is irrelevant so long as it's imposed on a minority of the voting populace.

*much of the the money is then used to 'maintain' footpaths and flood defences for other tax payers.
