You should have been allowed to opt out at the same time you were auto enrolled, unless the rules have changed. Just tell pay roll tomorrow you missed the paperwork, and they should cancel it for you. Saves them cash as well.
I emailed my umbrella company today and this is what I got back.
The pensions company should be sending you a welcome pack in the next couple of days. You will be able to phone them as soon as you receive this and opt out of further pension contributions. It will take up to 7 working days for me to receive the opt out file from the pension company which may delay the refund being paid back to you.
So this week and the following week and most likely the week after will be challenging to say the least...
I'm essentially earning £250 a week
My advice to anyone who was in a similar position to me and desperate for work would be to never, ever, go with an umbrella company. It's scandalous that the local authority use them on minimally paid jobs.
My only saving grace is the fact that I'm only contracted until December,so ten weeks of this crap to get through by which time l will hopefully get a decent reference and be free to look at my options.
