minor things that make you fume

Today had a vinyl record delivered, in appropriate cardboard sleeve and "Fragile" labels slapped all over it. Delivery person balanced 2 cases of Irn Bru on top of it as they staggered to hand it over, the vinyl visibly buckling under the weight. Unsurprisingly, record completely ruined, FFS:rant:

Takes the P that. Not like you should do it, but there are a few tips n tricks on YouTube how to straighten out a vinyl from being warped. Saw one where they used a hairdryer, quite impressive tbf

Whenever I've shipped records I've always put the cardboard sleeve inside an exterior box with suitable void packing. 2 cases of Irn Bru seems excessive but there's a good chance parcels are gonna be put under some stress at some point (in a cage/bag full of other parcels in the back of a lorry etc) and those cardboard shipping sleeves for vinyl are completely inadequate.

Some delivery drivers are thick as mince. For me, the minute I knew there was a record to deliver, (its pretty obvious) I treated it with kid gloves. Out of any sun, on top of the cargo, or on the passenger seat/footwell.

Charity shops charging discog prices for LP’s. Get in the bin.
Too many articles about how that old record collection is worth a fortune and then showing the top prices for Mint condition highly sought after pressing as a typical value. Even seeping over into the CD market now. Went in a charity place a couple of weeks ago where I've quite often picked up cheap CDs and they're now asking £4-£8 for admittedly quite sought after discs but they're well worn and available in better condition on Discogs for a quid or two less.

The price I pay on a website like Discogs is for the convenience of near instantly finding exactly what I want in the condition I want it without getting off my arse. I'd not entertain paying that price when I have to speculatively spend a lot of time going through dozens if not hundreds of absolute landfill albums on the off-chance I might find something of interest. And even then it's 50/50 whether it'll be in playable condition or even contain the disc.

This is it. I find the odd thing I think “I’d have that”. The other week I saw a Ray Charles does Country album, in an ok condition, so for a few quid I’d have taken it. I mean it’s a charity shop. They had it up for £10.

If you ever find yourself in the Oxfam in Keswick they have albums in there for £50. Mental. Was a Gram Parsons one I wanted but they wouldn’t budge on the £40 they had it priced as. Ended up getting same pressing for £15 at a record fare.

I bought Discovery by ELO in a Charity shop for 3 quid on Saturday, the cover looks brand new but when I put the LP on the deck the arm just slides right across. It's always a gamble with vinyl second hand.

Oxfam are horrific for pricing. Only ever been in two and I get that they sell a lot of new stuff and exclusive stuff in general but the donated stuff was through the roof and more expensive than new.

Must work on some level though.

Everyone is missing the bigger picture…was the Irn Bru ok ?………

Eating breakfast here at the Broken Yolk cafe in San Diego and this dude refuses to put his cigarette out when it is clearly a non smoking establishment and the manager himself has not asked him to leave yet. Just plain inconsiderate.
