I always let them cross if traffic permits on the opposite side. When I am running I hate why my rhythm gets messed up so I symapthize with them.

I find a lot of runners are sympathetic towards another of their kind. Me included.

It takes no effort to let someone cross the road in front of you when you're sitting in a car!

agreed, though as a runner, you should be on the lookout for opportunities to cross which don't impact your running or other drivers. I often belt it across the road when there's a lull in the traffic, saves me getting stuck at a pedestrian crossing.

100% agree. I'm talking about crossing at a junction for example. I'll let the runner cross my path rather than me starting to look to cross into the new road I'm joining.

Or if a runner is about to cross a road I'm turning into. They'll take 3 seconds to get across so by slowing my approach and making the runner aware I'm letting them across its a more civil action in my opinion.
