minor things that make you fume

Absolutely livid here, was all set to go buy a car this morning (off gumtree) - had said 10.30 to the bloke, he said ok, then said could we change to 11.30 cos he works nights. Sure, no problem. Then he calls me a 10.20 this morning to tell me he's sold it. I understand there's no real rules for gumtree, but the fact he changed to 11.30 then sold earlier than my original time really, really pees me off.

Haven't seen anything remotely as good value, or that I can afford, it was a real gem of a car. And now I'm left scrabbling around looking for alternatives as I need it for next week.

FUME!

Guy had it MOT'd on Thursday (I checked the DVLA site), interior was absolutely mint going by the photos, and for a 2004 car with only 70k on the clock, it's going to be moderately decent nick.

Autotrader is ok if you've got a few grand to spend, but I'm looking for a quick cheap runaround in the £700 bracket. At that price, Autotrader is rubbish, as its full of Cat C/D and spares/repairs fodder.

Got one on ebay I might go for, but we'll see if they accept my Best Offer.

I tried using Gumtree, Auto Trader and Ebay when I was looking for a car earlier this year. It was an utter nightmare as most were either not telling the full truth or lying about something such as if it had been written off etc.

I also think you dodged a bullet there. There is bound to be something wrong with a 700 pound car. Lots of defects don't get picked up in MOT tests.

Just watched football focus, surely it's time to put Mark Lawrenson out to grass, the guy is right up himself, says his piece(as uninteresting as it is) then interupts the others with annoying unfunny quips whilst they're talking, stands there like an old tramp with his hands in his pockets, get him off now he 'kin winds me up, why is he still there? did he catch the Director General tossing off the tea boy?

Well that's my budget so I'm prepared to accept the risks.

I understand just pointing out some hidden costs like at the 70 K car you'd probably have to change the timing belt some time soon and while you're at it some other stuff. This is expensive.

Don't know how long you want to drive the thing but maybe in the midlong term it's cheaper to increase your budget a bit /borrow some money.

When I go food shopping with my other half (something I very rarely do) and throughout the whole experience she has to give me a running commentary on how much each item costs, and how much more it would cost in X,Y,Z supermarket. Also, her somehow getting great joy from picking up a 'bargain' buy.

Go to Aldi. Pretty much everything is cheaper than elsewhere in there.
