I received an infraction due to "inappropriate language" by a moderator who goes by the name "Groucho".

F*cking hell Howard just send it if you have no other options...

All the best,
GrandOldTeam

I attempted to dispute the incident, but received a seven-day ban for doing so. I said (and I still stand by the fact that) nothing I said was illegal or offensive (unless, for some religious reason, you find "hell" offensive, in which case I sincerely apologise). I did not directly or indirectly insult anyone and I did not use any bad language at all.

I was prepared to accept this as harsh moderation and move on. All people interpret things differently and, who knows, maybe the moderator was having a bad day. However, I came across this thread:
http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/64854-ALAN-MYERS

In here, a message not dissimilar to my "offensive" one was posted. An image of the incident can be found here:

Right underneath, a moderator has posted. Not only that, but it is a direct reply to the post. The "word" that I'm assuming I was banned for posting is repeated in the post and, via a reply, clearly its use is accepted by this moderator.

I'm not aiming to have this other person receive an infraction too, but rather, for there to be a fair standard of moderation across the forum. I used to use the Blueroom a lot. Poor and controversial moderation is what killed that forum and I wouldn't want it to happen here.

I suspect that Google are pretty good at determining context of what is written on here. That's their job after all (although the scouse lingo may befuddle them).

The thing is, with Google there isn't really much right of reply, and certainly a whole lot less with them than you fellas have with us here, so it really does pay to play it safe.

I do use asterisks in place of swear words, I will not, from now on. Could we use symbols such as !£$%, or is that classed as trying to circumnavigate the swear filter?

You can use this url to see what Google regards as a profanity

http://www.wdyl.com/profanity?q=

enter the word you want to test after the = and it'll say what Google think of it.

Not sure that's foolproof. Try the obvious one with the "U" replaced with an asterisk and it says false.

But that's beside the point, people should just not swear. For social and obvious reasons as well as anything else. It's against the rulebook so that kids can use this site and families can feel comfortable allowing young blues to read up on Everton.

One thing is clear; if I were a mod instead of a useless beaut like you, this kind of stuff wouldn't be happening.TROLOLOLOL

A bloodless Coup is on the cards here!

Lads as Tubey said so well, if all posters made a conscious effort not to swear then the problem would disappear quite quickly. Swearing at the match or in a pub is one thing, but swearing on a screen is a complete no-no particularly when it potentially damages the future viability of the site.
